"Flashback to last time Pats played in New Orleans" & Strangely Similar Concerns

Different teams no doubt, removed by several seasons, but the resemblance in tone is identical to what happened Thursday, especially in the 4th quarter:

Tom Brady, Patriots suffer historic 4th quarter implosion: 'We had it handed to us on our own field'

To get into specifics, the quarter opened with Alex Smith throwing a 78-yard touchdown pass to rookie running back Kareem Hunt -- less than ideal.

But at that point, the Patriots only trailed by one. Brady owns the fourth quarter. Just look at the damage he inflicted in the ultimate pressure situation against the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI.

It started off well. Hit James White for an easy 26 yard gain, then Chris Hogan for an 8-yard quick hitter.

Then things went off the rails, unlike anything we've seen from a Tom Brady-led offense. Over his last eight attempts, Brady went 1-of-8 passing for one yard. Here are the results of his las 11 dropbacks:

  1. Incomplete
  2. 1-yard completion
  3. Incomplete
  4. Incomplete
  5. Incomplete
  6. Sack
  7. Incomplete
  8. Incomplete
  9. Sack
  10. Sack
  11. Incomplete
Brady did not complete a pass over the final 12:55 of the game.

The defense was equally brutal. The Chiefs rolled down the field to take a 35-27 lead with 5:19 remaining -- still a one-score game.

Then they ran 79 yards in two plays to score a game-icing touchdown.

It was the sort of performance that has rarely been seen in New England -- on either side of the ball.

If you walked away from this game thinking that you'd never seen a Belichick team do this before, there's a good reason for that. You haven't.

Patriots: From Super comeback to embarrassing collapse | FOX Sports

"I just think we need to have more urgency and go out there and perform a lot better," said the now-40-year-old quarterback and four-time Super Bowl MVP who looked anything but for much of the night. "That is a winning attitude and a championship attitude that you need to bring every day. We had it handed to us on our own field."

"It’s a terrible feeling, and the only people that can do something about it are in that locker room. We’ve got to dig a lot deeper than we did tonight because we didn’t dig very deep tonight."

That was shocking to hear. Mistakes rooted in bad decision making or inexperience, or even in a lack of enough talent are more acceptable than not having the proper mental approach. Of the criticisms sometimes leveled at the Patriots, being ill-prepared or lacking an edge rarely if ever has been one of them.

That might be the most dangerous aspect of the loss for New England.

Still remember this

I've always wondered what the conversation between BB and TB was like. What they discuss during the games, how they plan on approaching the game etc. We saw a few snippets but hoping for a more detailed insight into that. It will be fascinating.

Ohh a true pats fan lmfao...sorry if I don't have a great memory like yourself.
Why would you need a great memory? Even if this was a game from last year it has no bearing on this years game, team or anything.

What was the point of the thread? That BB is mad about a **** kicking from KC? Assuming he is what would a NO game have to do with this?

be interesting to see how effective brady can be without a good slot guy.......which is an inevitability given amendola can't carry the load

time to give charlie weis a call

Speaking of 09 I still can’t believe the Colts punted on a chance at 16-0 in front of their own fans. What a bunch of sissies. Hearing the boos was priceless! I’m glad the Saints clown stomped them in the SB.

I hated our 16-0 banner at first but after seeing the Colts do that I appreciated it a lot more. Showed they were man enough to go for it and got the job done and withstood a real challenge from the Giants to do it. We earned it. Not all teams are man enough apparently.

He misread the Tweet. He apparently thought Bill's quotes were from after the KC game but now realizes they were from 8 years ago

Yeah, the "We go on the road and have no mental toughness" might have been a good hint also.

Honestly I would be more concerned about how the defense played last week against KC than how they played against NO 8 years ago. Especially considering they played worse against KC, and KC had Alex Smith instead of Drew Brees.

OTOH, the Saints didn't look particularly scary to me last night, Brees or not.

Yeah, the "We go on the road and have no mental toughness" might have been a good hint also.

Yeah I know. But I see a "this is concerning" thread based on a misread different than the "we're going 8-8" based on overreaction.

Seems like a mistake by a new/casual fan. Meh...

We will just have to see what happens. The injuries concern me more than anything, let alone an eight year old quote.

This thread needs to go

So much effort wasted on such a stupid premise. Sad..

yes, it was from 8 years ago....but it's a good reminder of how long Brady and Belichick have been in sync.
