Different teams no doubt, removed by several seasons, but the resemblance in tone is identical to what happened Thursday, especially in the 4th quarter:
Tom Brady, Patriots suffer historic 4th quarter implosion: 'We had it handed to us on our own field'

Tom Brady, Patriots suffer historic 4th quarter implosion: 'We had it handed to us on our own field'
To get into specifics, the quarter opened with Alex Smith throwing a 78-yard touchdown pass to rookie running back Kareem Hunt -- less than ideal.
But at that point, the Patriots only trailed by one. Brady owns the fourth quarter. Just look at the damage he inflicted in the ultimate pressure situation against the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI.
It started off well. Hit James White for an easy 26 yard gain, then Chris Hogan for an 8-yard quick hitter.
Then things went off the rails, unlike anything we've seen from a Tom Brady-led offense. Over his last eight attempts, Brady went 1-of-8 passing for one yard. Here are the results of his las 11 dropbacks:
The defense was equally brutal. The Chiefs rolled down the field to take a 35-27 lead with 5:19 remaining -- still a one-score game.
Then they ran 79 yards in two plays to score a game-icing touchdown.
It was the sort of performance that has rarely been seen in New England -- on either side of the ball.
If you walked away from this game thinking that you'd never seen a Belichick team do this before, there's a good reason for that. You haven't.

"I just think we need to have more urgency and go out there and perform a lot better," said the now-40-year-old quarterback and four-time Super Bowl MVP who looked anything but for much of the night. "That is a winning attitude and a championship attitude that you need to bring every day. We had it handed to us on our own field."
"It’s a terrible feeling, and the only people that can do something about it are in that locker room. We’ve got to dig a lot deeper than we did tonight because we didn’t dig very deep tonight."
That was shocking to hear. Mistakes rooted in bad decision making or inexperience, or even in a lack of enough talent are more acceptable than not having the proper mental approach. Of the criticisms sometimes leveled at the Patriots, being ill-prepared or lacking an edge rarely if ever has been one of them.
That might be the most dangerous aspect of the loss for New England.
