@NO is must win now. Lose that and they are staring at possibly 1-4 or 2-3 after five games. The D just got torched by Alex Smith. What will Brees do in that dome?

lol

THE SKY IS FALLING !!!

Openers are difficult to predict.
Last year they got a gift in the form of a missed FG with time expiring.
This year Alex Smith had a career game on a night when what Belichick would probably call "Johnny Foxboro's Defense" showed up.
It's the NFL. This crap has a way of evening out. Last night, it did.

I came into the game expecting Brady to be out of synch without Edelman and with all the additions and subtractions on Offense.
OK. Maybe he was a little more out of synch than I hoped, but everything we know about him suggests that he will get it together.

We're on to New Orleans!...Though, I'd prefer if it was "We're on to Cincinnati."

Anyway, takes the pressure off a 16--0 Season.

good news is they scored 27 while leaving points on the table.....not sure how because the offense looked out of sync most of the night

"The science is settled... not only will 100 year storms happen every year, not only will Florida be uninhabitable, but as early as 2017, the New England Patriots will give up more than 40 points in an opening game at home."

Andy Reid runs a very nice offense, they were 12-4 last year and Reid has torched us in the past

-lets look at the last 6 games

2005 SB: 24 - 21 - McNabb 357 yards
2007 regular season 31-28 - AJ Feely 345 yards
2011 regular season 38-20 - Vince Young 400 yards
2014 regular season 14 -41 - A Smith 248 yards (3 TDs)
2016 playoffs 27-20 - A Smith 246 yards and 44 yards rushing
2017 regular season 27-42 - A Smith 368 yards

It's way too late for that, you haven't seen the gameday thread I assum...

I'd rather be on the wrong end of an epic comeback in the first game of a season than a last game, that's for sure. Agree, the 16-o world domination stuff isn't bad to get out of the way.

"Get your heads out of your butts, nobody hands this stuff to you" is the takeaway. "And don't tell me about injuries, tell me who could have stepped up."

That sort of thing.

As a fat-azz fan sitting at home, it puts the fear of reality into you after an off-season of "world's greatest quarterback evah, world's greatest dynasty evah." In a way, it feels more like football season to get our feet back on the ground a little.

Would have preferred an ugly win to serve that purpose, especially one without injuries... but losses and injuries are both part of the game.

Hard not to think that Brissett wins that game to be honest. Instead we had Dorsett who did nada.

Eh, plenty of us were dreaming of it but I hated that it was being talked about before a single ****ing preseason game had been played.

Love your new signature pic. Can you do Teddy from Westworld as Hackenburg?

You should put a smiley face so people know you're being sarcastic.

Do cart wheels over him, he looked like trash in the run and passing game. Whether he was rushing or covering. Call it how you'd like though.
He joined the team like 5 days ago lol..

thy will still go 11-5 or 12-4 win AFCE and get a bye. 2014 started ****ty. Giving up 42 sucks though.

A few of you are falling into that classic NFL trap mentality of, "If X did this to our defense, Y is going to tear us up!" Football, more than most sports, is about the matchups. Andy Reid offenses have typically done well against us, that doesn't guarantee that New Orleans will do better. They absolutely could, but this game will have no bearing on it.

Weren't you planning on collecting game thread quotes and posting them in their own thread throughout the season? If so, I'd highly recommend going back to last night's and starting there. There were quite a few gems. See my sig. Also, Brady is toast apparently.

Before the mods delete my post again because they seem to love deleting any posts/topics bashing the Patriots, even though they played like complete ASS, and deserve all the criticism they're getting now I'll have to say this:

I don't care about the previous years. This team got carved up by Alex Freaking Smith for almost 400 yards at their home stadium. That is completely unacceptable. Now imagine next week when the Patriots go against Drew Brees. Do you know what that guy is going to do this defense? He will absolutely destroy them. Look for him to having 450-500 yards if we see the same the garbage that we saw today.

This defense is the worst I have seen from NE as a fan for a while, and that's saying something. This reminds me more of 2008 if anything. This team will go 11-5, and one and done if their defense doesn't change. They will not be able to handle playoff contending teams.

This is really embarrassing. How the hell do you get blown to smithereens by letting the freaking Chiefs score 40+ off you at your home park? When's the last time that's happened? Hell I don't remember the Patriots giving 40 points in ONE game last year. They're 1-1 already in that category this year.

16-0? HA. I would love to know where those delusional fan people are. They're not going 15- 1 either.

"deserve all the criticism they're getting now"

"I don't care about the previous years"

"This is really embarrassing"

Hmm, problem's not the team, methinks.

I started it last year and went through the first 2-3 game threads but just couldnt deal with it anymore.. not even from a sarcastic perspective. But I will try it again this year week-by-week so it might be easier to stomach.

That post in the sig cracks me up.

The ones in 50-yard-line's post though, those are spot on. At least they'd be spot-on INSIDE the team's film-room, except that BB could say the same thing more cuttingly, and possibly with less cutting/direct words. He's sort of like the dad that can just give you "the look" and you get it, from what I hear.

Back to work, for our boys. Back to waiting until next week, for us. It'll be a long 10 days.

Whoever said HT for Hightower, and maybe everybody says that, I just thought of Harris Teeter. Not that it matters.

I appreciate the guys who are actually doing *work* on the Pats every year, while we post silly things in game day threads. I loved the one from the SB by the way... all the nice people saying "I feel bad for people who left." I didn't. They DESERVED to miss the most epic comeback in SB history.

Anybody who posts stuff like "team is garbage" after one game is whatever comes after "casual fan."
