With Patriots Fearing Torn ACL, It's a Tough End For Cyrus Jones

Ian Logue

Patriots fans can say what they want about Cyrus Jones, but it's safe to say that the second-year defensive back is certainly a fighter.

He'll get one more shot next TC, but I'm thinking the leash will probably be very short. If he can't put it together early on in 2018, his career in New England will come to a swift end. Best wishes to the kid. Hopefully he's able to come back 100%.

He hurt his knee on his best defensive play as a Patriot.
He certainly seems star-crossed. I hope it's not as bad as it looked, and that he has a speedy recovery.

True he has never done much in a game but the last few preseason games he started to turn it around a bit. Not that he was redeemed totally but the arrow was finally starting to trend up just a bit.

Cyrus tore ACL + meniscus

poor boy . really can't catch a break

CB depth may be an issue here, although an extra CB shouldn't be difficult to find.

torn meniscus is probably the worst part of that news. ACL repairs seem pretty commonplace. not sure meniscus repair is as good.

Just glad it didn't involve his patella tendon as well; that tends to be a career ender. That's what ultimately took down Jerod Mayo and Jake Ballard.

I think Cyrus was shaping up to be 5th CB, which as you said shouldn't be too difficult to find a serviceable one. I think the bigger loss is as a returner, not necessarily because he was going to be so dynamic, but because without Edelman he would have taken some PR pressure off Amendola.

Coleman the likely beneficiary here, but I still like Moore. PR is another matter.

Meniscus is probably the most painful part, too. Had one, know what it feels like.

You'll see guys limping off the field under their own power with a torn ACL. When Cyrus had to be carried off in agony, I immediately started thinking meniscus.

I'm gutted for Cyrus. I wanted him to make the team and become the dynamic returner he was meant to be.

Me too. I was moved by how hard he took his performance last year and how he beat himself up over it all offseason.

This kid cares. Deeply. I wanted success for Cyrus more than almost any other player this year.

This news was heartbreaking last night. I hope he can take it one day at a time and my wishes are for him to recover fully and be able to resume his career.

.

I know it's cruel but can the Pats cut him with an injury designation or they have to IR him and keep in the organization?

For a guy that is supposed to be explosive, he may lose a step next year from an already disappointing career so far. I think it simply didn't work out, I'm not sure more time and resources should be wasted with him.

Best of luck in his recovery though,.

They have to keep, he will be on next camp

I think it makes the possibility of Moore making the team that much more probable.
