The "tanking game" is kind of hard to get at, because everybody will just say they tried their hardest, by God!

But it DOES screw teams on the bubble.

It COULD even result w/4-12 teams being the "kingmaker."

"We'll play the Bills tough so that it spoils the happy ending for the Dolphins (or HFA for the Pats)."

The whole playoff system is built on the idea that professional athletes -- hell, human fuggin' beings - are proud enough that they won't get out on the field and lose on purpose.

On the other hand, even if they can "aim" their efforts at one team or another, the suckage is mainly irrelevant to a given season... it kicks out a Kansas City or a Miami, but doesn't USUALLY affect nfl royalty.

That said - we are fans of a team that managed to go 11-5 and STILL not make the playoffs.

Does "tanking" the season violate the "integrity" of the NFL???

The Jets just traded Sheldon Richardson for Jermaine Kearse, a 2 and a 7.

Man, they're really tanking hard

Goddamn they're stupid. I love this. Someone floated trading for Kearse last night and I opposed it figuring that he would probably be our fifth best WR, and the Jets traded Richardson for him.

Kenbrell Thompkins must be pissed that he's not the Jets #1 WR now.

Sucks to see him go. Obvious off field issues, but damn he's good. Seattle's D is gonna dominate.

The 2nd round pick is sweet and now add another 6mil to the cap in savings I think after considering Kearse's cap hit.

Good trade for the Jets I think, Richardson was gone after the year so to get something now and a player in a position of need, and a decent player at that, is pretty good.

That Seahawks D-line though.....monstrous.

This is one of those trades that you have to say was great for both teams. Getting Richardson for a 2nd rounder is a good value for them. While he is a monsterous pain in the ass, Seattle is the one place in the league where his personality fits in. Bennett will have that guy under control within the month or he'll put him under the bus. Their DL looks awesome.

For the Jets they add a pick that will be in the 60's and get rid of a malcontent that wouldn't do well while the team was tanking. They guy I feel sorry for is Kearse. He's a solid pro that probably deserved better than to be sent into the desert witho0ut any water.

In the big picture, though, yet another first round talent who the Jets were unable to straighten out or retain.

Eh, if we didn't have top notch DEs, he would've been kept/signed.

It would have been foolish to pay both home and Wilk.

Wilfork's U teams vs this year's Jets. I know, I know "these guys are pros and they would best the crap out of..." but still. Would be interesting tv.

"Shel-Rich!!! Gaa Gaa Goony!!!"...oh wait...the JETE traded him? The huge young superstar bigmouth chest thumper? The heart of JETE nation?

jeezus krist, kid...just STFU...your JETE suck, you suck ,your life sucks and every suck in existence will eventually be superglued to your pin head.

Wilkerson has eaten himself out of productive play and has one of the worst contracts in the NFL. Richardson gone for a JAG receiver and a second round pick. Yeah, I'm sure 2-3 years ago, when these guys appeared to perennial all-pros, this was the optimal result Jete fans were hoping for.

I think Sheldon is a better player than Wilk. Not by a drastic margin or anything, but enough.

Now maybe Wilk can change things. He has the ability. So we'll see.

Off the field is another story. Wilk is a model citizen. Sheldon not so much. Think one more hit for substance abuse, and he's suspended for a whole season. Have to take that into account.
