Should we bring in another kicker?

OK, I'll bite....

Whom should we bring in that would "breathe down Ghosts neck"? Roberto Aguayo? Yeah, that would send Gostkowski into a complete panic.... he'd probably hold out to demand a higher contract....

I agree. It seems as though last year was a season-long case of the yips for the Ghost. A little open competition might aid things.

Have the misses all been strictly on Gostkowski?

Or are some of them due to either a bad snap or a bad hold?

Not sure what guy off the street is going to be an improvement even if the misses had nothing to do with the snap or the hold. While Gostkowski had a down year by his standards, he was till middle of the pack in the NFL: 15th in FG percentage, 17th in XP percentage. By comparison in 2015 he was 1st in XP%, 5th in FG%.

If there is an unsigned free agent worth bringing in, wouldn't he already be in camp for those teams with a kicker ranked in the mid-twenties to #32? Who do the Pats sign, Josh Brown?

I personally think the bucs gave up on agauyo too soon. He will catch on somewhere

Just needs some competition. He's one of the highest paid at his position and should perform as such. As someone has said he has missed crucial kick during the playoffs.

Why don't you ask for a tryout?

I'm not certain (1) how much of the blame is on G vs the holder/snapper, nor (2) who'd be available to be a viable option if G falters or gets hurt. Having said that, I was in his corner for longer than most on here. But, I'd say if things are going to be like 2016, there might be some anxious moments late in games (unless this squad is as strong as everyone thinks and games get out of hand on a weekly basis). I know there were times in the past I never worried about PaTs & FGs. 2016 was different.

cause there is obviously a kicker on the street who is going to hit 100% on everything

Definitely, but the draft has passed, maybe take a flyer on an udfa available?

Maybe the guy who missed Week 1 in Arizona is available.

How many years has it been since the last Gostkowski needs competition thread in pre-season?

It;s like going down memory lane.

Exactly. Ghost was a Pro Bowl kicker 13, 14, and 15. Last year was a off year for his standards and pay so he was adequate. Even then there were probably 13 kickers who were worse last year, not even taking into account how lethal Ghost has been on kickoffs - which has to factor.

He is only 33 and has a lot of miles left. He is still a better kicker than Vinatieri. I dont think competition would make a difference. Ghost is the guy and will be fine.

Next year if this keeps up, but they will stand for these misses for now because the kickoffs are the best.

As someone has said he has missed crucial kick during the playoffs.

Maybe its time to replace Brady, Edelman and others as well for missing throws or dropping the ball during playoff games then.

People bring up the missed XP against the Broncos as if the rest of the team played perfectly and didn't screw up at least as many opportunities as well.
