Gillislee is Primed for a Big 2017 Season for the Patriots

Steve Balestrieri

Gillislee is one of those one-cut runners with a good burst at the snap and he should hit the hole quicker than Blount did.

He will be a big part of the O. I don't think he will have 300 carries cause the wealth will be spread but if he is better than Rex (and i think he is) he will get more snaps.

I'd guess this backfield goes

Gillislee 230 carries 1100 yards 12 TDs
Burkhead 150 carries 700 yards 3 TDs
Lewis 80 carries 340 yards 2 TDs
White 30 carries 120 yards 1 TD
Brady/Edelman/Everyone else 40 carries 120 yards

That is about 490 runs from RBs and I added another 40 in for Brady whoever else.

That puts the Pats at 530 carries. I think they will try to take the ball out of Brady's hands more in the 4th when up and in general turn into more of a running team to keep Brady fresh and from being hit. I think the Pats lead the NFL in attempts this year or close to it.

It may effect their total PPGs but who cares if instead of 36PPG they score 33PPG. It is still better. Also the fact the Pats didn't have much of a run game in their last 2 SB runs was not lost on BB. They want something that at least keeps the threat of the run like in 2001/03 if they can't have a guy like Dillon.

I think whoever leads the Pats in rushing this season, will have 750-800 yards. I also think James White will get more carries this year.

I can see something like this

Gilleslee 175 for 750 yards and 10 tds
Burkhead 125 for 500 yards and 5 tds
White 100 for 375 yards and 4 tds
Lewis 80 for 350 yards and 4 tds

Interesting thing is, you can have White and Burkhead in the same backfield, and the defense would have no idea if it's a rushing play or a passing play. Both good receivers. Same could be said for Lewis and Burkhead. This offense will be extremely difficult to game plan against.

Gillislee, Burkhead, White, Lewis... and that's just the BACKFIELD.

This 2017 team is like Avengers Infinity Wars.

They really need to make an Avengers vs Justice League movie.

Should we pump the breaks at all on Gillislee and Burkhead? In a combined six seasons, they've barely TOTALED* over 1,000 yards over that time.

* All six seasons added up for both backs combined. It's around 1,300 total.

Especially with a healthy Gronk back in action!

So many deadly offensive formations with our full roster available

Well, your point is taken as neither RB has shown the ability to consistently carry the rock over a sustained period.

I don't view Burkhead getting a ton of carries. Maybe 50-75 as I think he'll be a core STer. I see White and DLew getting around the same.

Gillislee....I dunna know. He's a total wild card. He could be around 170 carries on the low side and up to 220 for a high. I guess it all depends on how well he holds up and doesn't fumble.
