Dungy: Brady 6th best QB since 1978

Norv Turner:

If Peyton Manning had New England's defenses, he would be at the top of this list and he would be 5-2 or 6-1 in Super Bowls.

Oh really? That's a very interesting insight by one of the most comical coaches in NFL history. I'm sure given seven Super Bowl games, Manning would have done just as well, if not better, than Brady.

Try this: If any quarterback in the NFL had played in the postseason for the 2006 Colts or the 2015 Broncos, they would have won the Super Bowl in each of those two seasons.

The reason why Manning didnt have a good defense is Manning.

Brady gets it and knows that there is only so much money to go around. Manning never did.

Brady was drafted 9th in the MMQB draft. Of all time players. He was the 2nd QB taken behind Johny Unitas.

So Brady has played in a league with lots of talent but players constantly shifting around and new blood kicking the older or lesser players out of the league every season. Making it almost impossible for teams to win 3 division titles in a row.. If Brady never got hurt in 08 the Patriots could have been division champs in 14 straight seasons and 15/16 over all. 5 SB Championships.. multiple league MVP's, 4 time SB MVP.. in a league where remaining at the top is almost impossible.

Would you really take Lawrence Taylor over Brady in a draft? Not taking anything away from LT but the QB is far and away the most important position. Not to mention someone drafted a punter over Brady in this mock legendary draft.

Salt?

Manning would've struggled in NE with the crappy weather even with a good D. What defense was going to save him from throwing a pic 6 against NO to end the game?

He didn't play well in one Super bowl out of 4. Give me a break with the crybaby, "he would'v done better with Brady's toys" argument.

“Take for example, on Fridays,” Wayne said. “It was called 'Perfect Fridays.' (Manning) would come out and he would kind of run the show for the beginning of Friday's practice.

"… He had his cue cards and he went through all the plays that he wanted to run,

Manning, as we know him, could never have survived under BB.

I was just about to post something similar.

Belichick would have been gone within two years had he been the coach inManning's early years. They probably would have fired him due to Manning's early struggles to limit mistakes and read defenses, or he would have resigned after clashing with Archie's well-protected son.

I don't give a damn about any of this talk. Brady has 5 SB rings. Manning has 2. Elway has a laughable 300-227 TD/INT ratio. Marino, who I believe to be one of the best pure passers of all time, has one SB appearance to Tom's 7. Case closed. The only real debate was whether Montana winning 4 vs. Tom winning 4 (with two more appearances prior to Feb.) was somehow better. That debate has ended.

As someone else mentioned, this kind of silly talk helps to keep the chip planted firmly on Tom's shoulder. That's fine with me. Let him stay a madman.

I think we're past the point where Brady needs it. Without talk, I believe he could fabricate something that suits his motivational needs.

Oh you mean most prolific...I thought you meant most varied, you know like when Manning went to Denver and brought HIS offense with him. While you can point to different formations and such as nobody runs one set of personnel 100% of the time the vast majority of Paymeaton's career was 3 WR 1 TE single back sets. It's what he is most comfortable with and change is not something he is good at. Now Brady for instance has run everything from traditional I sets (2001) to spread (2007) to uptempo 2 TE (2010) to....well you get the idea.

Why would Rodgers rank above Young? Does this include an optimistic projection that Rodgers will continue at his current level for more years or strictly based on what he has done?

Young's situation was similar to Rodgers in many ways...took over for an icon and already had a great offense...also was groomed for years as a backup.

Young retired with a 96.8 rating, a ton of rushing yards, two MVPs, a SB, and a SB MVP. His statistics in the 90s were as good as Rodgers' are in the 2010s considering his peers and the norms of the eras. Also, Young went 2-12 in 1986 with a terrible TB team; his passer rating of 65 bogged down the rest of his numbers. Haven't run the numbers, but I'm pretty sure it would be close to 100 if you took that season out.

MMQB had 9 NFL executives do a mock draft of NFL greats to fill a roster and then coaches. Polian chose Marv Levy and Dungy over Belichick...... The hatred in Indy knows no bounds and borders on stupidity.............
It's pathetic. As much as I admire Levy, you cannot overlook four straight SB losses, especially when you go back and look at the rosters. There are quite a few HOFers and then some really good talent surrounded those HOFers. And Dungy? Pu-lease. That guy is Belichick's b*tch. LOL

I do have a question to those who lived at the time: Were the 70's Steelers and 80's 49ers reviled as much? I was a kid when the Cowboys were dominating the 90's and I know that it was sorta split down the middle where I lived at the time (NY) - seemed like you either loved them or hated them and no in between. The same could be said about the Bulls in basketball, though almost everyone at least had a heavy respect for Jordan. It seems like it's Pats fans and then everyone else for the 2000's. Great teams tend to have quite a few detractors, but I don't know if I have personally ever witnessed so many people seemingly refusing to give credit to one organization. Just stubborn stupidity. I guess it's mostly players and coaches of teams who felt they were robbed - Faulk, Dungy, Porter, McNabb (though he's softened his stance in recent seasons), etc., but it's still pretty pathetic.

The GOAT doesn't require cocaine.

Super Bowl stats ( record in parenthesis)
Tom Brady (5-2) 207/309 2071 yds 15 TD 5 int --3.1 ratio TD/INt 95.3 rating
P. Manning (2-2) 105/155 1001 yds 3 TD 5 int--.6 ratio TD/int 77.4 rating

average Super Bowl
Brady 30/44 296 yds 2.1 TD, .7 int 95.3 rating
Maniing 26/39 250 yds .7 TD 1.2 int 77.4 rating

Discussion over, mike drop.....

Even if all of those guys were actually better than Brady, which they aren't, it would still be a VERY special player that we would have enjoyed watching. I would have taken that scenario 15 years ago. KNOWING that he is the GOAT makes it that much better. Never thought he'd be this good. Deal with it Dungy.

I tried Miguels's pages but I'd like to see how much money was spent on offense/defense and then compare it to production of those teams.

I would expect to find that Brady and his teams spent less money per point scored than Peyton's teams (with the possible exception of his Denver years as he had good receivers/TEs on rookie deals)

The media was begrudgingly calling Brady GOAT after the Super Bowl due to the shock of how the game went. As the new season is getting closer they are reverting back to the same old arguments as if the last two SB's never happened.

Tom Brady has more Super Bowl rings than any other QB, and more than the entire Manning family. That pretty much ends the argument of Best QB Ever for me.

The GOAT doesn't require cocaine.

Belichick is really the only one qualified to determine who's more valuable between LT and Brady. He directly coached both of them in their primes.

I wish this was the first and last post of this thread.
