Zolak: Brady will get a two-year extension

No, real arguments based on real analysis and with a split fanbase ready to bar no holds.
What if garoppolo was here and the last year of his contract was 2013?
These posters would have had 37 year old Brady out the door and all he did was go on to have the GOAT 3 year run.

Thing is, they're probably right.

Anything less than Garoppolo behind him and half the fanbase would be screaming for a better backup QB. Having a legit starter behind him, the other half get defensive and target anyone who starts talking about succession plans as if they want to murder TB12 in the street. Welcome to fandom.
I haven't heard anyone scream for a better backup QB here ever.
You can bet if BB was stupid enough to send Brady away and we became an 8-8 team with the jimmy while Brady led another team to the SB there would be a lot if screaming and all these jimmy lovers would disappear.

Yes they have you're just expert level in the fine art of burying your head in various things
Come on. The only argument is "he must be great because belichick didn't trade him" which is no argument at all.

Well he's been in the system 3 years. That puts him way ahead of anyone new they'd bring in and is better than Brisset. That doesn't make him great but if Brady is out for a game or many games they can sort of hit the ground running. I think we're better with him than without him in that regard.

Sure but the argument is get rid of Brady instead of garoppolo.

Yea I love Tom Brady my favorite sports player ever as you can see in my username name and avatar but if JG is a legit franchise QB then you hold on to him no matter what even if it mean moving on from a 41 year old Brady in 2018 its how BB is wired, even if we go 19-0 next season if JG is considered a Franchise QB than you go with the 26yr old over the 41yr old who whould have but a year or two left of elite play, long story short in the 2020s when Carr/Prescott all the young QBS etc are lightning up the league I want us to be still relevant bullying the NFL hopefully with Jimmy G and not be a past dominate memory household name like the 49ers of the 2000s/Cowboys ya know

Seriously? SERIOUSLY???

You are starting a guy who has still done nothing substantive in the NFL over a 6 time Lombardi winner who went undefeated.

Idiocy.

Just because some fans are drunk at a bar and are talking schitt doesn't make it anal-ysis.

On 2nd thought, yes it does...
..."anal"-ysis.

Possibly the worst opinion in the history of this board.
If Brady leads the patriots to 19-0 this bozo thinks they should cut him because otherwise you will lose the backup. Wow.

What you apparently fail to understand is that the minute Brady retires the Patriots dynasty is OVER. It will be next to impossible to replicate the 80% winning percentage, appearing in conference championships 66% of the time, and 50% SB appearances, no matter who the replacement is, and it would be grossly unfair to expect that kind of success when Brady retires and the dynasty is over. So what really matters right now is riding this run out while they still have the greatest player in history at QB, and while he is still playing like the greatest player ever. The Patriots are poised to make a serious run at another Lombardi this season, as well as 2018, and cutting that short just to test out the theory of some fans that Jimmy Garrapolo is a "franchise QB" makes absolutely no sense at all. You do not cut a dynastic run short of your own accord, you play it out and see how far it takes you. It would be a different story if there was real evidence of a deterioration in Brady's game, but instead it is exactly the opposite and he is playing the best football of his career.

Unfortunately for Jimmy Garrapolo the timing simply doesn't work out for him in New England, and short of a season or career ending injury to Brady he is not going to get the opportunity to be a starter here. He could go somewhere else and be a good quarterback, that remains to be seen, but it almost certainly isn't going to happen here. His best opportunity will come if MacDaniels leaves after 2017 and goes after him to be his starter, other than that it will be a crapshoot for him as a bad team and different system will likely be his challenge to overcome.

Agree completely, that is an insane position.

You have to love how simpleton and quantum mechanic keep disliking and disagreeing with the Pro Brady position but neither can articulate any rational argument for Garrapolo getting the job over him.

That is Darwin Award winner level of stupidity.

I know simple people often become mesmerized with the newest shiny object waved in their periphery. Maybe I underestimated the bright whiteness of Jimmy G 's admittedly handsome smile?

It was kind of cute when folks were pining for Michael Bishop back in the day. However. plotting the exit of the greatest QB we will ever see is moronic.

When it's Bledsoe, it's ok to wish the next unknown will be better. When you have the best ever, you let it ride--especially considering what he did last year.

I will risk Brady falling off a cliff just to play it out to the end. 6 rings, 7 rings? It's possible. It would be an insult to all of us not to find out how much history can be made by this dynasty.

And furthermore, why do some folks assume BB sees JAG as the heir because he wasn't traded for draft picks? This is faulty logic.

It could be argued (with stronger evidence) that BB sees JAG as a backup on a LOADED team more valuable to a SB run than the player(s) he could have added in the draft instead.

It could be argued (with history as evidence) that BB forsees a JAG franchise tag and trade (ala Matt Cassel). Sure, the draft pick haul would be less in that scenario, but it was a trade-off for making this year's SB contender stronger.

If Brady falls off the cliff this year, fine, we keep JAG. Good luck with that.

The consensus on this board appears to be that the Pats dynasty will begin and end with Tom Brady. Fortunately BB will never think this way.

Anyone who has been paying attention over the past 17 years knows that BB has a plan to remain competitive in the post Brady years and that may very well require moving on from Tom one year to soon, if that proves that be in "the best interests of the football team".

Of course Belichick is always going to build the strongest team he can , that goes without saying, but he also certainly realizes that having a dynasty requires having a great QB to run your team, and there is simply no way the successor to Brady will ever come close to achieving what Brady has achieved, and placing that kind of expectations upon them will be foolish. No one is saying the Patriots won't continue to be a good team and contender , what we are saying is that the days of winning 80% of their games, going to 2 out of every 3 conference championships, and going to every other Super Bowl and winning most of them will be over. Only one player in NFL history has achieved that level of success, and no player in the league will ever match it going forward as it has taken both the GOAT coach/GM and the GOAT player to reach those levels over a 17 year period, and that will be impossible to recreate in a league built to undermine success and maintain parity.

This dynastic run is a once in a lifetime experience, and it will end when Brady decides to retire, so enjoy it while you can as it will never happen again.
