OT - Celtics to trade #1 overall pick?

I'd trade the #3 and the Laker pick next year for Porzingis... keep the Brooklyn pick which will be high next year... sign Hayward, have another good year this year, develop Brown some more, then in 2018 draft the best fit with the high pick and end up with a pretty damn good team in 2018 as LeBron hopefully starts to fade.

I'd move Crowder, the number 3 pick, Bradley, and the Clippers or Memphis first for Porzingis. Bradley and a future first might need to go to Minny to deliver the # 7 pick to NY.

That's a fair deal for NY. The # 3 & 7 and Crowder who has a good contract. I'd even throw in another future non Brooklyn or Lakers first rounder in.

This would free up space to give Hayward the max and keep Olynyk.

The roster would look like

IT Rozier
Smart Rozier
Hayward Brown
Porzingis Olynyk
Horford Zizic

Hayward would play a good amount of shooting guard freeing up time for Brown. That roster has a lot of flexibility and depth. They would have an outside chance against Cleveland and they would still have a lot of youth for the future.

The only flaw I see in that trade proposal in the #3 Tonight I would part ways with Brooklyn's unprotected pick next year, Jaylen Brown, AND Jae Crowder for the Pork. I just want a ISO player like Tatum the Celtics haven't had a Big ISO player in a while those players can make a difference.

That is a huge concern.. I am not parting with Brooklyns pick or Jalen Brown. They can have #3 and the Lakers pick and Crowder.

My goal for next is to have Horford, Thomas, Porzingas and Hayward starting next season. That might get them to the finals if everyone stays healthy.

Of course thats a big if.

That guarantees him 4 excellent young prospects over the next 2 years that he can develop into players that would attract good FA's to come to NYC. Seems like a good plan and a fair trade for a player he obviously has a problem with.

The comment was the worst thing you can do is think you are closer to competing than you are.

My response was I disagree because I don't see any teams that were in that position and folded with good future results.

In other words middle of the pack teams can try to get better or dump everyone and start from scratch. I think there are examples of this teams getting better by building (isn't that Gsw?) and I don't see any that dumped and tried starting over that it ever worked for.

I know the common perception is you need 3 superstars to win but who ever got there by starting all over?
Not saying I'm right because I am not that close an NBA follower but asking if there are any examples of this plan to dump and start over with high picks and cap space that have succeeeded.

However, as I said, both of those teams only tanked for one season instead of blowing things completely up (and it sounds like that was your definition of tanking). In your post above you have said that I hadn't considered the context of the question you were asking (which was in response to something Froob posted), and you are completely correct. I posted hurriedly (on a plane about to take off).

If the question is whether or not completely blowing up a team works, we will all know the answer to that in a few years, depending on whether or not the Sixers have a championship by then.

I'm hoping this trade happens for not much more than the Celtics' counter. No way do meet Phil's demands.

If there's no trade, I'd like to see Tatum be the pick. He reminds me so much of Pierce.
