in my opinion. they are just as good if not better. if you haven't heard their last two albums you should check them out. i love them. almost forgot. LIVE just reunited. another great band from the 90s that i love.

not to derail, but you and Mrs. Duvall may be the only people that think AIC is better with Will over Layne. Layne was the best even according to the SEA scene and his peers from that era. new AIC is good but Layne trasnformed songs. He was just deep into the H unfortunately...

RIP Chris

I loved lane. he was awesome. i don't like Duvall better. I love both. just think people are really missing out on the current Alice in chains. I absolutely love the last 2 albums as much as anything they have ever put out. I've seen them with and without lane, and i loved all the shows. I look at it as AIC 1 and AIC 2. to me jerry Cantrell is AIC. I love Cantrell's solo stuff too. listen to degradation trip volumes 1 and 2. great music.

Little off the point, but the thing about Staley is that, unlike Kurt and Chris, he essentially died very slowly.

No one knew much about him during the last five years or so of his life. His health along with his physical appearance deteriorated immensely. Look at the last pictures of him that are known to the public (which even those are years before his death), and it will tell you how bad he got in his last few years. Rumor has it that many news outlets even had an obituary prepared for him, because they had heard how bad of shape he was in, and that it was looked at to be unforunately only a matter of time.

I'd say that Staley's death, though just as tragic, was the least surprising of the grunge singers due to the way the last few years of his life ended.

Yeah Layne Died slowly, he didn't exactly OD but heroin killed him. His body probably just gave out after injecting so much coke and dope into his veins.

I heard the new AIC they sound good but Layne was... Layne he was amazing. IMO he will go down as one of the greatest Rock n Roll voices of all time.

And Jerry Cantrell while not the greatest voice in the world had the perfect back up vocals for Layne.. The 2 of them together made some amazing sounds with there voices. And I personally love Cantrell's guitar rifts as well.

I haven't listened to a lot of there new stuff. From the little I heard it didn't seem to have that magic.

like you said you haven't listened to a lot of the new stuff. its hard to have an opinion if you don't listen. you are missing out. if you do decide to listen. have an open mind or it's pointless. pretend it's some other band and go from there.

You are of course correct. I will give it a listen when I am in the mood.

I didn't know that. ****.
I know, right? Wow. Eerie.

At least that's what I've been reading, anyway. You can never be too sure these days, but I've seen it in multiple places.

IIRC they found Staley two weeks after he died. He weighed about 80 lbs.
That's just terrible. I mean, just awful. I vaguely remember, but am hazy on the specifics.

I had the pleasure of seeing them once during their heyday back in the mid 90s.

Apparently it's been confirmed that he hung himself...

What's disturbing here is not only that he once wrote a song titled "pretty noose", but look at this video from his song "Nearly Forgot my Broken Heart" from just a year ago...

Definitely makes you wonder. Who knows if this had been something on his mind for a really long time. Have a hard time thinking there's no correlation here.

That's all weird as hell, no doubt, but I was speaking to the rumors/stories that he played Led Zepplin's "In my time of dying" as the last song of their encore last night.

I know, I was just adding that onto that. There's so many eerie things about this.

No, but I'm sure by now you've both heard the very last song that he played yesterday at the concert. A cover of Led Zepplin's "In my time of dying." Sad.
I almost dropped my phone when I read that.

Clearly CC had plans.

Way too sad.

Yea those guys, Soundgarden and STP I never saw. Big regrets there. Did see Nirvana and have seen PJ around 9-10 times.

I have seen Hootie and the Blowfish, Michael Bolton and Celine Dion. Don't ask...

Mother Love Bone started grunge and killing yourself.

I'm late to the thread. But I'd like to say RIP Chris Cornell and my thoughts are with his family.

Also, I agree with a lot of people here, I really loved a lot of the music from the 1990's, loved the so called grunge bands, Nirvana being my favorite, but loved Alice In Chains as well as Soundgarden, loved early Pearl Jam. Also a big fan of STP. Loved Sublime as well (another lead singer death).

My favorite Soundgarden songs are Outshined, Fell on Black Days and Blow Up the Outside World.

Man, what has happened to music ? It used to be so great. The only new music I really listen to is new stuff from Green Day and Blink 182.

Crazy thing is, that's my favorite Led Zeppelin song of all time. Now I'll think of Cornell when I hear it. Really is an amazing song though. Led Zep did a concert a few years ago (I'm guessing less than 5 years ago), with John Bonham's son playing drums, and played In My Time Of Dying, and it was spectacular. Saw it on YouTube. Can't believe how great they played it after so many years.

99% of the music I listen to was produced before 1995 and after 1962.

I think there are some decent artists and songs out there but for me, I just don't have the time to sit back and listen to a lot of music.

LZ is and will always be one of the greatest bands of all time.
