The Pats will go 19-0 this year if healthy

Too soon.
THe first time it's not "too soon" to bring up perfect seasons is when you have possession and a lead with 25 or fewer seconds to go in the Superbowl.

And on the other hand. If the Pats move the ball 1 more yard the Seattle game goes to overtime. And if they had a QB with a non-busted throwing hand they win the Bills game; let alone if Brady is not suspended.

Really given all the time wasted on getting JG ready its more probable than not that if Brady is not suspended the Pats go 19-0 last year.

And if the Patriots don't lose half the offense in 2015 they had a legit shot at 19-0 then.

And the Pats are a better, more experienced, deeper team this year.

That's the point, though. Even for very good teams, games come down to coin flips, and it's exceedingly rare to see them always come up heads. In fact, in a 16-game season, it's only happened once in the regular season, and never for all 19 games. (The Colts would have gone 16-0 in 2009 had they not thrown the final game, but they also lost in the Super Bowl, thus saving themselves our embarrassment.)

The team building process for the most part is done. Maybe 1 guy surprises and steps up and maybe 1 more role player is signed but generally the 46 game day roster is in place.

They improved on both offense and defense on a team that was 14-1 under Brady last year with that loss coming against a good team on a very off night for the D.

Honestly I like this team more than 2007 on both sides of the ball. While this O probably won't set the same records they did in 07 it is more diverse and match up proof. It really can attack you however it wants and do so effectively. On defense this team has a beastly pass D and an improved pass rush and run defense. The only thing you can hope to do it attack the LBs but that is easier said than down particularly if Hightower is healthy and you can't sustain several drives just throwing against LBs all day. This D will adjust to it.

Also the OL will improve. I expect Thuney to make a good 2nd year jump. That will hopefully help the interior OL issues and the OTs have a bit more depth this year in case something crazy happens for a game or 2. Not to mention if Brady goes down for a few games JG installs confidence he can hold down the fort vs most of what the NFL has to offer.

If this team stays healthy I would argue they will go 19-0 and frankly this team is more stacked and balanced than 07' and has that vet savvy from being in game games with big come backs before.

I know 19-0 is a subject some don't want to bring up or even want to happen. Some fans believe the pressure it puts on a team going into the playoffs is not worth it and would rather loss one in the regular season than try for perfection. I want 19-0. I want the perfect season we thought he were going to get 10 years ago. I think will all Brady/BB have accomplished there is little left to push their legacy much further. I think 19-0 would be the cherry on top of everything and stuff it up the tail pipe of the haters and nay sayers.
PLEASE STOP THIS NONSENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I might feel 1% more excited after winning a Super Bowl at 19-0 than I would at winning a Super Bowl at 18-1 or 17-2 or 16-3 or 15-4, etc.

That 1% more joy isn't worth devoting a whole lot of time, thought, and emotion into that somewhat remote possibility.

Nice to have, but it is less than the "extra" of having sprinkles on the ice cream cone. It is the extra sprinkle with the sprinkles that are already on the ice cream cone.

sorry... my bad....

It is the extra JIMMIE with the JIMMIES that are already on the ice cream cone.
:)

I would like that.

there's always one inexplicable loss.

One of the best things about the Patriots is the teaching/coaching and re-focus opportunity that is almost always the result by this coaching staff after such losses.

This isn't saying a perfect season isn't possible, but it's the mental aspect more than anything else (except maybe injury) that likely carries a team to that pinnacle.

Gronk...don't forget him. If he's healthy, it's a different team. I love how other teams were talking about how we had some huge advantage because they were missing a player (Texans:Watt, Steelers:Bell, etc) but we were without a potential GOAT TE.

But 19-0 talk is a bit crazy...there's always one inexplicable loss.

That's why the LeVeon Bell injury in the AFCCG talk was so annoying... The Steelers didn't have Bell! If only they had Bell it would have been a totally different game! OMG Bell was really injured!

Not once did they mention Gronk being out for the Pats

The Patriots will go into Denver in week 10 at 8 - 0, coming off of a bye week. That's the most dangerous game on the schedule. If I have to put an L somewhere on the schedule, that's the game.

19-0..8-8..whatever, all that matters in winning another SB

Silly and pointless to talk about now, but it's May, so...

I will say this. Totally fair to say it may be a counterproductive pursuit, but those who say they totally don't care aren't being honest. If it happens, all will be happy it did.

20-0 would be fascinating. Imagine being the #3 seed because two other AFC division winners not on the Pats' schedule went undefeated and won tiebreakers.

Let's do this!

Chris

yeah okay maybe didn't think that one all the way through

It would still be awesome, though.

I remember in 2004 the Pats appeared on track to finish 15-1 and would have been the #2 seed thanks to the loss in Pittsburgh. The dumbfounding loss in Miami ended up making that moot, but it would have been an all-time frustrating seeding.

This is a really good roster on paper. But we have no idea how this team is going to come together chemistry wise. There is no guarantee it will have the same mental toughness that the 2016 team had. That's how much teams change each year.

Then add the fact that after this draft, the schedule just got tougher. The NFCS is going to be a very tough division. NO, Atlanta, Carolina all will be extremely tough games. Oakland, Denver, and Steelers are 3 very tough road games during a stretch where the Pats will be home one game in almost 2 months. Then we play 2 playoff teams in the Chiefs and Texans, and a much improved Charger team. Plus I think the Dolphins will be a tough out in the division.

Those are ten games, that I expect the Pats to win, but wouldn't shock me if they lost. Then there would be 3 more tough games during the playoffs. To expect them to go 13-0 in those games is really unrealistic, even IF they remain relatively healthy

Win the division
Get a bye
Be relatively healthy for the playoffs

THOSE should be the goals, not 19-0

Worse than 11 wins and you're out?

I think it's time to grow up and realize that 19-0 is a fantasy. ... one that's definately capable of coming true, but not worth stressing over and feeling disappointed about...at least not yet

We'll cross that bridge when we get there.

But if there's any team in the NFL capable of going 19-0, it's......

see, I almost fell for it again. d%#*!@t  :p

I think you're all deluding yourselves. This is going to be a very challenging year with serious problems of aging in many areas combined with some fairly high-priced new arrivals that I think will pose serious chemistry problems to the team. I've never seen a team work so hard as the 2016 Patriots, and what did they get for it? Just to be paid half what some guy who hasn't played a down for the Pats has? I think there is a big risk this is going to harm the chemistry, which is going to show up in poor preparation and unintelligent on-field decisions.

Apart from that, the very fact that so many sportscasters are proclaiming the skill of these new acquisitions is a serious tell that the Patriots, who have built their team on undervalued players, are losing their creativity. It's like when Spielberg started casting famous movie stars in his films: you knew he was done.

If average viewers (like sportscasters and the media) can see the strengths of a new acquisition, then so can opposing coaches, and prepare for them. I'd be much more comfortable if the media was insulting the ability of the Patriots players, like they usually do, and then getting perplexed when the Patriots win. Because if the media insults a player, it means the media doesn't understand him, which means he has hidden ability that Belichick can use. When the media compliments a player, it means the media does understand him, which means so do opposing coaches (including the GMs who traded him, or other GMs who declined to trade for him).
