Patriots Pick Up Brandin Cooks' Option

Well I mean of course. Belichick isn't giving up a 1st and a 3rd* for a guy and not picking up the option

*I know it was a swap of slots but trading that 3rd they didn't actually get a pick back because the pick was taken because of the stupid punishment.
Especially when that guy is Brandin ****ing Cooks!

Says who ?

They have him for 2 years at 4.5 APY. There is no way that Cooks will agree to a new contract that will take that number in to account and be severely below market value (i.e. same as with Butler last year).

I disagree. Typically when the Patriots extend or renew a contract its not below market value at the time the player signs. Depending on how well the player performs it then could become lower than market value in the last couple of years. Some players are happy to take the money up front. Others (like Butler) are willing to gamble and wait. The benefits go both ways.

Cooks will be a dynamic player for the pats this year. He already was for the saints. But you add all our targets and he will have alot of one on one matchups

You dont get it. If the Pats are offering him a new contract then next two years which currently are effectively are at 4.5m will lower the average of his APY considerably. They will not tear this contract up and just give him a market deal.

It is the same situation they were with Butler last year when by all accounts they were close to getting it done.

There is barely any reason for Cooks to agree to a deal like that.

Did anyone actually doubt this would happen?
