Reports: Browns reached out last night about Garoppolo, were told no. Will make another offer today

Except Brady will freely state he wants to play for another five years without being prompted. He isn't deflecting. He making a firm statement.

The only other option to doing that is to freely tell the press when he plans to retire. Again, which one do you think he's going to do?

The Browns messed up today, was it Sashi Brown that came out and said that they will get there QB in 2018 whether in free agency or the draft.

Good luck selling tickets for 2017 dumbass.

Right now they are going to overpay whatever they do.

Well, they certainly have the capital for it.

I would still be willing to trade JAG for both first rounds picks and a second round pick next year as well as 52 this year.

2 first and 2 seconds really should be enough. I'd take that deal.

If we franchised him in 2018. The Browns could just agree with him on a contract then and get him for two 1sts. I kinda doubt they would give that plus two 2nds just to have Jimmy G one year earlier.

I believe the exclusive franchise tag doesn't permit other teams to negotiate with your tagged player, but the tag number is higher.

I think BB "values" the "value" in next years draft (as some have said previously). If they do trade Jimmy for a king's ransom, then they'll definitely have enough ammo to AT LEAST TARGET QB Sam Darnold (considering he actually declares next year & the Pats actually want to draft him.)

Wouldn't that require the first overall pick?

Yep. I've thought this too...he says "I'll play till I'm 45" and that short circuits the nonsense that would come his way.

It's hard to face, but the reality is that if JG is still on the team after the weekend, more signs than not point to the fact that next year is Brady's last on the Pats.

Yep. It sucks but it is what it is. Some posters have yet to come to terms with that fact. If anyone truly believes that this man will want to play until he's five years away from a half century old and will want to get hit by 23 year old, 300 pound men in their absolute athletic prime, then I don't know what to tell you. My best guess was always 41-42. I don't believe in a million years that he'll play until he's 45.

If Patriots win SB 52, Brady will retire.

BillB retires.

New era : McDaniels and Jimmy

IMO.

That makes no sense though. You don't turn down multiple high draft picks (possibly multiple first rounders) for insurance for a title run. That is a move a bad GM does, not Belichick.

The only possibilities that make any sense are either the offers weren't good or the Pats are ready to move on from Brady after this year and Garoppolo is the heir apparent.

If Belichick gave up say the 12th overall pick and the 33rd overall pick to keep Garoppolo for insurance for the 2017 season, he is a complete and utter fool. And he isn't a complete and utter fool.

I agree with you, and I truly can't imagine Bill refusing the 12th and 33rd in favor of zero next year. It would only make sense if this year is Brady's last, but I fully believe Tom when he tells everyone who will listen that he intends to play into his mid-40s. And if Pats weren't on board with Tom's timetable, then why this in February, two months ago:

"Patriots will look to extend Tom Brady next offseason, source says," Ian Rapoport wrote on Twitter. "Clear indication they believe his proclamation to play into his 40s." Rapoport added that the Patriots have assessed Brady's long-term production as part of their own long-term planning and believe he "will play 3-5 more years." -businessinsider.com

It's mystifying. Jimmy has played--I think--all of 5 quarters of football, before getting injured and prior to teams getting film on him, so his value is through the roof; you'd think this would be the ideal time to get a return on him, considering the Pats believe Tom has at least three years.

I read a rumor and I think @Miguel kind of confirmed it that they working on a Brady extension.

So unless that's to reduce his cap hit I don't anythings means this is Brady's last season.

They can keep JG just to keep him as insurance for what looks like a promising season.

As RW put it "BB is just going to ride this situation out" and make the best decisions along the way.

Either way, it's BB hedging his bets. He no doubt realizes that Brady could have a sudden and sharp decline and/or get injured at any time. The body doesn't bounce back at 40 the same way it did at 30 or 24. If Brady is still playing like the GOAT after 2017 comes to a close and doesn't want to hang them up, franchise and trade JAG.

Do some kind of three way deal with Seattle for Sherman to Pats and Jimmy G to Cle with picks to Seattle. Hard to say no to that.

That first half of the Super Bowl theory is an interesting one. I've seen it a couple of places now. The Falcons began to take a turn for the worst when they came out of bump and run and switched to a primarily zone look. I haven't reviewed the film of that first half just yet. Is there anyone that has? Was Brady holding the ball too long and having trouble coming off of his primary?

It's not zero next year. He can be Franchised and Traded. For less ? Sure. But they will probably get a high #2 or a single #1 depending on circumstances. Less than this year but far more than zero.

No offense intended to you, or your particular position, but I'm going to use your words to set off a mini rant:

CAN PEOPLE PLEASE STOP WITH THE "AT ANY TIME" AND "FALL OFF A CLIFF" CRAP?

No age is safe. A QB is always one hit away from retirement, a QB's game can deteriorate at any age, and the whole "He's getting old" thing was already getting old 5 years ago. We're already past the "Nobody but Elway's ever won at 38" and "Nobody but Manning's ever won at 39" stages.

And now, back to your regularly scheduled postings.
