Reports: Browns reached out last night about Garoppolo, were told no. Will make another offer today

Still baffled by this decision. I believe in my heart that brady can play at a pro bowl level the next two or 3 seasons.

  • BB is playing one hell of a game of chicken
  • BB thinks Brady's done after this year
  • BB thinks JAG is the next Young/Rodgers and is buying time
It's pretty much got to be one of those, right?

Sounds like he wants Garoppollo here as insurance to Brissett in case he gets hurt again.

So, no matter what Cleveland offers, BillB will say no?

Browns can give 2018: #1, #2, #2. And still no?

"per sources"... lol.

I'm sure the Browns think the Pats are desperate to unload him...and they found out they are not.

Exactly. I'd add BB puts a ton of value in risk management and will be damned an injury to TB12 derails this team's SB chances.

One other thing, now that Garoppolo isn't getting traded, the "We can't give up the back up QB this year even for three first rounders because the Pats are all in" brigade are going to declare victory.

Unfortunately, we may never know why Garoppolo wasn't traded to the Browns or anyone else. The only way we will know for sure is if he is the Patriots' starting QB in 2018.
He better only be starting for the Pats if Brady retires.

JAG had frickin' better be the next Steve Young/Aaron Rodgers.

Or, Belichick decided that Ealy and Cooks were enough of a haul for Rounds 1 and 2 this year and that he could sit back, watch the Brown's load up with two firsts, three seconds and two fourths for next year and make his move in a few weeks.

Or maybe he does think JG is the next Young or Rodgers. Who knows? I sure don't.

Another theory is that Bill didn't feel the need for a first this year but would rather have them next year. Cleveland offers their 1st and 2nd this year and Bill says F off. Cleveland sleeps on it last night and is even more freaked out today, they call Bill and offer TWO 1st's next year and one or two 2nd's. Bill says "throw in a 2nd this year and you have a deal", Cleveland bites, Bill wins.

Jimmy is super talented, but IF Brady goes down the Pats probably aren't winning the SB.

Maybe. Maybe not. If we are basing the discussion on @Deus Irae list of scenarios, it would stand to reason that BB absolutely thinks Jimmy can lead them to the SB.

All the people thinking keeping Jimmy as a backup QB for a year, better not complain when the Patriots burn a first round pick for a backup QB in 2019

Right. After all, BB is accustomed to not having 1st rounders and still kicking ass and taking names because of it.

Adapt and overcome.

Others have said it before, but it could also have something to do with BB just not being fully sure of Brissett as the backup QB, and he wants to get a look at him in camp before he is comfortable moving Jimmy. Perhaps Bill felt that he would rather keep Jimmy around a little while longer just in case Brissett is not up-to-snuff and not be caught with his pants down if he moved Jimmy too soon. If Brissett is deemed to be good enough, Jimmy can still be traded to Cleveland, albeit for probably a little less of a "haul" and for picks next year vs. this year. But, this team is stacked already, so most of those picks would've probably been with next year in mind, anyway.

Cleveland will stink this coming year. They will be in play for a top quarterback in next year's draft.

2018 is going to interesting I think thats a guarantee, but would BB hold on to a 41yr old Brady over a 26/27yrs Garoppolo, or would Brady take a another cap friendly restructure to where they could comfortably franchise Jimmy G and and work on extending him will Brady plays one more year if Jimmys ok with that and if hes not does Tom get traded for the sake of the future of the franchise being that hes 41 and they have what they believe is a 27yr old QB that could keep the well oiled machine that is the Patriots running just fine if giving the keys, I think either Brady or Garoppolo is getting traded next season (unless Brady retires) and yes I think its possible for Brady to be traded next season, unless Garoppolo is willing to rock the bench another year or unless he gets traded then that leaves the future of this franchise in question marks

Cleveland will be all in on Sam Darnold and it's a shame he must be praying someone anybody else drafts him.

No reasons quoted anywhere else, I am just in the maybe not crowd.
It is hard to win the SB even with Brady.
Also it doesn't matter what I think

Who knew when Bledsoe went down and Brady came in that he would lead them to their 1st Super Bowl?

Unlike this year, next year's draft is expected to have legitimate QB talent available. Why would the Browns lose a year of JAG and then pay a premium for him in a year when there are other excellent options available?
