The only thing I know for a fact about the JG situation is that it's maybe the only reason for any of us to watch the draft. My brain says they have to trade him and BB is just maximizing leverage by waiting til draft day.
But I also think most of us ,myself included, are underestimating how valuable the qb position is to BB. Maybe it really is worth it to him to keep JG for one year as insurance, then letting him walk.

My "mole" who is familiar with the goings on inside the Gillette lair tells me not to expect any major moves.
Ho hum

@NFLRT: The life of a young man will be ruined tonight.

Years of hard work. Wasted.
Years of potential. Gone.

The Cleveland Browns select...

It's the browns

Hard to believe the last Good Browns QB was one the Fleet Footed Bernie Kosar...I was a Teenager back then...guess how old I am?? Never mind. But I get what you're saying.

Yes, but I do think we will trade for Ryan Mallet, then flip him for the number one overall pick.

You misspelled "Matt Cassel".

I would have bet a lot on 'no' early on but as this offseason has progressed I'm kind of just accepting it seems like they actually really want him and aren't holding out for max value.

This forum will be a very interesting place to be if that happens. I highly doubt they'll trade the GOAT if he's still playing like the GOAT, but stranger things have happened. A move like that would no doubt cause a mass exodus here.

Happened with Montana, happened with Favre, and Belichick's never been shy about his "better one year too early than one year too late" philosophy. While I suppose you could franchise and trade Garoppolo next year, or keep him as a very expensive backup, this whole thing smells like Brady's last season, by hook or by crook.

It is the million dollar question. My answer Probably but with many question marks

I think that Cleveland really needs a QB. This years class are years away from showing their value if there even is any value. Cleveland's Front office and coaches need to win now to keep their jobs. JAG is their best option. They need to pony up a ransom. Will they do that. I am not sure. I think they cave in draft day and offer more than they intended and BB takes it

I think the Pats love JAG. Problem is Brady has shown no signs of fading. JAG still has many ??? of longevity. Kraft said that Brady told him he will play at a high level for another five years. Time will tell on that matter but I will never doubt Tom. Kraft stays out of BB's business. But this is one decision where I think Kraft draws a line in the sand. So if Brady stays JAG must go. This is the year to get the best return. But hell what do I know

I'm hearing rumors that this is indeed a huge possibility.

I think they'll take Garrett at #1 and trade up from #12 for Trubisky, myself.

But Bob McGinn, who's probably the most in-the-know of any beat writer, has him going #1 (thanks to a Haslam intervention). We'll see.

Only worth checking when the Browns and Saints pick tonight

That's just not going to happen. If you trade #1 overall for JAG and he falls flat on his face, you've just lost your job while setting the franchise back at least five more years.

If you don't have a QB, you fall flat on your face. JG is the real deal, this would be like passing on Rodgers

"No, Bill - we don't think Jimmy Garoppolo is good enough for the #1 overall pick! K, gotta go select Mitch Trubisky with the #1 overall pick now. Bye!" - The Cleveland Browns

Montana and Favre are poor comparisons.

People forget that Montana went 2 full years without playing for the 49ers. So trading a guy who hasn't played in 2 full seasons, and probably would not ever be the same again, isn't remotely comparable to Brady's level of performance.

As for Favre... I think GB was sick of his annual "will he or won't he retire?" routine. For several consecutive years, they would literally spend most of the offseason not knowing whether or not Favre was coming back or not. Tough to plan a season with such uncertainty.

Aaron Rodgers is the best QB in the NFL not named Tom Brady. To compare 90-minute Garoppolo to Rodgers is absurd.

Sure, but there's never going to be any perfect comparison here, and the floor may drop out on Brady's play at age 40. We have no idea yet.

True, we have no idea. However, there is no evidence whatsoever to suggest the floor dropping on Brady's play is anywhere near taking place.

If you ask me who is going to have the better 2018 season, 41 year old Brady or Garoppolo, my money is on Brady.

And in three years, if Trubisky develops, the Browns should hope he is what JG is now.

My money is on Brady too. However, we have the luxury to have BOTH this year. If TB12 struggles and plays like a 40-year-old, you can go to Garroppolo. We don't have to bet because we have both. If an offer is good enough, I would trade JG and take the bet, IF I feel lik Brissett is ready to be the full-time back up/could step in and perform if TB goes down.

It isn't an easy decision. If TB was 33, JG would already be gone.
