Patriots Draft Profile: Colorado CB Chidobe Awuzie

I liked the way he moved in Combine drills.

He has the fifth-highest pSPARQ at 3sigma so far (of only 18 calculated), right behind his teammate Witherspoon.

Sounds like his tackling issue may be a matter of technique, rather than a lack of willingness.

He's very physical. I don't think he has tackling issues. He had 7 sacks over the past two years, which is pretty high for a corner. He loves to hit. His technique might need some polishing, but he's aggressive and violent.

Well, Balestrieri did say he often tackles high.

This corner class is ridiculously deep. Even though I like a lot of the top guys, we could easily get someone in the 2nd or 3rd who can be a quality starter for us. I've seen Awuzie mocked anywhere from the 1st to the 4th. If he somehow makes it to 72, then he's pretty good value.

I think you can make a good case that the Colorado guys will provide some of the best value in the draft. I think 72 would be phenomenal value for a corner of this caliber.

Howard Wilson, Corn Elder and the San Diego State guy who's nam has just temporarily escaped me are three of my later day two/day three guys.

I really like awuzie in our defense.

I have humphrey of Alabama as the best fit for us and awuzie #2. The wild card is Sutton. I like him a ton in our defense. I know his tape is bad but that is because he broke his ankle. Once healed, he will excel in our defense.

Fortunately I think we can get Sutton in the third or fourth round.

I would take all 3 Colorado prospects. Awuzie in the slot, Witherspoon on the outside, and Thompson at Safety would be pretty good.

Im doing Uzi now and this is where Im at w/ him. He's a slot guy.

He has some nice #'s but he doesn't have make up speed, short arms/small hands and it shows up.

I really like Uzi but his future is brightest in the slot.

His jam is cancelled out at times bc of short arms. Again more quicks than fast won't help on the outside in the NFL when he's beat.

I think that also might a part of the reason why hes missed 33 tackles over the past 3 years. Its not bc of a lack of physicality or effort.

Also his Vert wasn't that great which could lend to problems on the outside as well.

Big fan for a long time. Think he could excel in Nickel.

Uzi got the post combine bump but the "Name" guys are just looking for clicks and late as usual to most of these guys.

I've said all along that Awuzie best suits the slot - aggressive in run sport, has the quick COD and intelligence to match up on slot receivers and offers something as a blitzer. But, he also has the experience and ability to play on the outside too. An ideal 3/4th CB to have on the roster.

Outside, maybe in a pinch? I dont see it long term but who knows. Im sure theres guys who he might be able to match up with.

I think slot just plays to his strengths, plus his blitzing ability is clutch.

Guy is limited in some areas. Height, arm/hands, vert and long speed but is a legit football player.

I mean that he can serve as a backup if you lose an outside guy to injury.
