“I’m a teammate first,” Brissett added. “I hope I can be a good teammate to not only him but everyone on this team.”

People compare Fairbanks with Parcells and say neither should be in because of their departures. I agree with that viewpoint concerning Parcells but I see a little difference with Fairbanks. The ownership did not handicap Parcells to the degree Fairbanks was saddled with Sullivan. I definitely support Fairbanks candidacy for turning the team into what should have been a Super Bowl winner.

Adding on to @p8ryts comment above:

In 1976 the Patriots would have won the Super Bowl if not for Ben Dreith fearing he would not get out of Oakland alive if the Raiders lost. 1977 should have been the Pats redemption, but Sullivan's cheapness led to Leon Gray and John Hannah holding out - and as a result the Pats missed the playoffs. Then came the '78 season.

The team as a whole was despondent after Darryl Stingley went from playing preseason football to being paralyzed in the blink of an eye. His health was the only thing on every players mind. The players all wanted to go to the hospital, but Sullivan refused, because it was going to cost extra money for the flight to do so.

Sullivan and Stingley had agreed on a new contract prior to that game, but then Sullivan refused to honor their agreement. To literally add insult to injury the Sullivans attempted to cancel his health insurance. Inexcusable.

For Fairbanks that was the final straw. The Sullivans are lucky the entire team did not go on strike in protest. But Chuck Fairbanks had seen more than enough, and planned to leave. The Sullivans got the media to portray Fairbanks as the greedy bad guy, not honoring his contract and jilting the fans and the team.

The reality was that Fairbanks had seen enough evil from the morally bankrupt Sullivans, and refused to be part of their despicable ways any longer. Equating what Fairbanks did to what Parcells did is a dishonestly fraudulent comparison.
