All quiet on Hightower front or Dont'a-do-it FA tour

Losing hightower would be like losing the QB of the defense. I hope we match whateva offer the squealers give him.

Is this something that matters?

It could be anything. That said, negotiations of this type (when a player is in for a visit) are usually handled face to face, so under typical circumstances it means a deal is already wrapped up or that there was no deal to be made.

But maybe this is atypical, and the GM needs to pick up his kid or something and is still negotiating by phone. Who knows?

If Ryan was too rich how the hell will they sign High?

That tells me they have the $ but felt Ryan was not worth 10m aav
I think your second statement could make a lot of sense. From what I can tell, they currently have about 18m available, but I'm sure there are plenty of ways for them to free up additional funds.

As you suggested, just because they passed on Ryan doesn't necessarily mean that they will pass on HT.

Yea I guess so. Pitt might have felt the same way about Ryan as BB did. Nice player but not worth 10m aav. From a historical standpoint, Pitt pays big money to its own players and does not traditionally dip its toes into the big time FA $ but rather the mid-tier guys like TE Green and S Mitchell.

Signing High would be a HUGE departure from that philosophy.

Over 1400 snaps at LB lost in FA between Timmons & Jones. Could impact the Steelers' offer.

Hightower is an upgrade from Timmons, and the Steelers didn't hesitate to pay Timmons when he was younger, so with that in mind I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them make a healthy offer.

I don't think Jones really factors into the Hightower equation, though. Very different players, different roles. Plus he's been a disappointment for a long time, to whatever extent that matters. As far back as last offseason they were unhappy enough to not bother exercising his fifth year option, so I doubt they'll panic or overreact to losing him. They knew that was coming, and are probably fine with it.

SOMEONE had to go buy the cupcakes.

The puke green ones were bad enough. Donta's not touching the piss yellow treats. Besides, Ben probably laced them with some liquid G date rape juice. Donta will wake up in the Squueeler locker room 2 days from now with a pen in his hand and yellow frosting all over his fingers.
