Butler visiting Saints

BB has a plan. God knows what it is but as long as hes in charge i trust him. Knowing him he will somehow end up with the saints pick at 11. Trade Jimmy for a ransom and we will have no idea how he does it. Like every other year. Just let bill do what he does best

Well i hope our 3rd rounder's included. Number 32 for butler? Really? Geez.
>>Number 32 for butler? Really?

And Cooks... That is what really happened. The 32 comes back. So it is really Butler for Cooks

like collins and jones?

Right.

That will stop him......

Stopping him is irrelevant. There's no "there" there since it's spelled out in the CBA and, more importantly, the other owners would oppose the action, and the players' union would be taking it to court, where they'd undoubtedly win.

So, BB would betray Payton?

Cooks is part of this deal that is the thing. Ultimately we traded Butler for Cooks, is what it will end up being. (I "think")
The cooks trade is finalized...As I said Payton agreed to it separately. Nothing can be done about that part now anyway.
He was traded for draft picks.

Didn't do us any harm did it? You don't win 5 superbowls without knowing what your doing. Plus rebuilding the team year in and year out

This almost feels like Scott Tennerman messing with Cartman on South Park. By the end BB will have the 32 back, Cooks, the 11, and Brees... Trades Brees to Cleveland for their 1. And we hold onto Jimmy. EDIT: Oh and Butler too!

You're probably right, but **** Goodell anyway!

Would that surprise you?

We have one year of Cooks for cheap money and then the option for the 5th year which means we have Cooks for 2 years in a relative low cost, the Saints will have one year of Butler on the cheap or maybe they will settle for an extension from the start, it's obvious for me the Pats will have to give the extra not the Saints.

Both players have the same value, CB's are rare assets but Cooks is one of the best receivers in the league, and Butler, it seems like his perceived value around the league is less than we PatsFans think it is. BB knows the market. If the conditions were the same contract wise, it could be a direct trade one player for the other, given these conditions the Pats would have to throw some change to make it work in my opinion.

Those are two separate trades.

Right now, the Pats have all the leverage. If they don't because of a wink-wink, expect the NyFL to swoop in with some penalties.

This looks very much to me like the Welker scenario as Reiss described.
How Wes Welker's '07 Patriots arrival could foreshadow Malcolm Butler's departure
Butler is in NO negotiating an acceptable contract, and they will agree on terms then he will sign his tender and Bill will execute the trade. I expect #32 plus something else, most likely a mid-low round pick, everyone here will immediately agree that Bill is a genius and Butler was overrated.

I am actually worried about this.....

You are missing that the agreement is between Bill and Sean.... Hopefully they don't get in any trouble for it.

We gave them a 3rd rounder as well. Give us back our 3rd rounder. Butler for cooks's equal value. I will be pissed if we don't get that back.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports restricted free agent CB Malcolm Butler and the Saints have opened contract negotiations.

Rapoport adds the two sides "hope to strike a deal this week." There are not many other reasons for Butler to visit the Saints except to work on a deal, but this is notable nevertheless. The Saints would owe New England the No. 11 overall pick if the Patriots decline to match an offer sheet, but that is likely more than they are willing to pay. The two sides will likely try to work out a trade.
wink wink

Take a different perspective. There are only two scenarios that don't trigger a deflategate style investigation by goodell..
1) saints offer Malcolm a contract and pats match and he stays a Patriot.
2) Saints offer Malcolm a contract and Pats decline and they get Saints pick #11.
Anything else like a sign and trade and Goodell screws the Patriots again. Are we naive enough to not know we have to be like Caesar's wife, above reproach.?
Side deals, wink and nod and discussing trading players not under construction ntract are not allowed.. I am sorry but if this is Pittsburgh and NYG it is not an issue but it is Pats and Saints who have been in th league's doghouse.

LMAO

BB in the slow drawn out process of flim-flamming Payton out of draft picks.

By the start of TC BB will have all his picks back, Cooks, Payton's picks and only had given up Malcolm and Jordan Richards.

I guess I'm not as concerned as you, but I can understand where you're coming from.
I believe everything will be fine.
If things go awry neither Bill or Payton is gonna narc the other out.
Payton got a nice return for a player he wanted to move.
