Nobody is going to offer more than 10.5 if a 1st comes with it

The players I have sympathy for are ones like Garoppolo who have zero control over their own careers and, due to the nature of the position, don't even really get a chance to play beyond fill-in duty.Yea I'm not sure I buy into the whole indentured servitude thing.
However, I do wonder if based on his evaluation of Malcolm, BB has reached the conclusion that Malcolm has already hit his ceiling and will never evolve into a Top 5 CB thus why he won't pay him top 5 CB money (that and he doesn't have to.)
He would lose a lot of money waiting until age 30 to be a free agent compared to age 27.
You can't have it both ways. On the one hand you are saying (paraphrasing) "he should take the short term deal and wait until age 30 to be a UFA." Then in the very next paragraph you say "God help him if he blows out his knee." It's a lot more likely he blows out his knee in a 4-year timespan than in a 1-year timespan.
Assuming money is his top priority, I don't take a penny less than $55M this year and if I can't get that this year then I take out an insurance policy, play for $4M then hit the open market in 2018 and make even more.

I think there should be a QB exemption to the CBA where they become RFA's sooner if they aren't starting. Just one man's opinion.
3.9 + 23 + 8 + 10 + 11 + 12 > 7 + 7 + 7 + 7 + 7If Malcolm had been extended...
Some basic math: Butler's 700k (2016) + 3.9m (2017) = 4.6m
4.6m + $10m + $10m = $24.6m
7m x 4 years = $28m
I think Butler's agent is doing math wrong.
Someone needs to explain to him how NFL contracts work, because a $7m a year offer over 4 years = $28m.
2 years at $10m after your contract runs out, plus the 2 prior years = $24.6m.
PLUS, you get guaranteed money in case of injury with the $28m.
23?3.9 + 23 + 8 + 10 + 11 + 12 > 7 + 7 + 7 + 7 + 7
He's not gonna play safety. He came here to play corner. Don't be surprise to see more press coverage this year.
I think he was refering to my post from page 3 or 4. The funny part is I was commenting on how BB told Butler he won't pay more than $10m for a CB. I said, in italics, that he'll (Gilmore) be playing safety. Directly under that post I wrote:I don't know why you're telling me this, but I'm exiting stage left.
Gotcha. I was so confused. LolI think he was refering to my post from page 3 or 4. The funny part is I was commenting on how BB told Butler he won't pay more than $10m for a CB. I said, in italics, that he'll (Gilmore) be playing safety. Directly under that post I wrote:

No need for you to exit stage left. It was a misunderstanding of epic proportions.
After the 3.9, the rest of that equation is Gilmore's contract in real dollars per year (rounded up). My belief is that Butler gets an equivalent contract as a UFA in 1 year.23?
I did not get your logic.
4/40? Seriously? I have to vehemently disagree. If Butler is a UFA next year (and assuming he maintains his current level of play without injury of course), when the cap will go up yet again, he brings in a very equivalent deal to what Gilmore got last week.Oh, I see.
But Butler will never get Gilmore's money, IMHO.
He will sign his tender, play for 3.9m and he can sign a 4y/40m next year as UFA, still a TON of money.
Of course it does. Other teams will be working off the $6-7 mill number....not the unknown number. How is it stupid? It won't affect negotiations with other teams and, if anything, he has gained some sympathy from the fandom who agrees he is worth more than $7M per year.
Jeff Howe? @jeffphowe 21m21 minutes ago
Patriots told Butler last season they wouldn't pay a CB more than $10M annually, so the Gilmore contract was definitely a gut punch.
Fan sympathy won't affect the Patriots nor will the Patriots offer to Butler affect other teams. Leaking the info is not a significant factor either way, but this is just another example of people trying to paint the agent as an incompetent buffoon when all he is doing is what typical agents typically do.Of course it does. Other teams will be working off the $6-7 mill number....not the unknown number.
And your sympathy premise....how in the world does fan sympathy factor into bigger dollars? Does BB poll fans requesting input on contracts? Are other GMs scouring the rosters looking to correct contractual injustices?
They'd call it..........."The Jimmy Rule"
