He was trash anyways, that pick was eazy. Plus I hear he eats babies and killed Kennedy. Let's salt this snail outta town.

Supa cereal btw.
But you know that there will be people diminishing him in some way once it becomes clear that he is a goner.

We don't have the first clue what teams are offering, but I think Butler easily gets Gilmore money next year if he is a UFA and plays in 2017 in line with 2015 and 2016.
7 career INTs in 3 seasons, 6 in two years as a starter? Gilmore had 5 just last year on a terrible team.

And Butler will be 28, it would be unusual if at that age he improves much more than he is already.

Butler's an excellent corner and fits the Patriots system perfectly, but that doesn't mean he's going to get top of the market money. I'm not convinced he is. That sort of thing is what other teams look at, as well as the past history of Patriots FAs in other places.

The agent is an incompetent buffoon if he expects unrestricted free agent numbers when the team is under no obligation to give it to him. If the offer from the Pats is $6mil/year then I blame the Pats for not yielding enough to retain a talented player. If the offer from the Pats is $8-9mil/year from the Pats then I blame the Butler camp. He's better than a $8-9 million player, but the CBA doesn't give him the leverage for better than $8-9 million this year and Bill's not doing anything out of the kindness of his heart when the league gives him the tools for making Butler play for $4 mil this year and either franchise or goodbye next year.
If the Pats are offering $8 - $9 per year for 5 years, I have no blame whatsoever for Butler (or his agent) for shooting down that offer. He can wait a year and get a deal worth $20 million more than NE's offer.

At this point, I don't blame the Patriots for doing what they're doing, nor do I blame Butler for doing what he is doing. I do, however, find it ironic that the people calling Butler's agent a moron would be singing his praises if he signed Butler to a 5 year, $22 million contract. Then Butler's a team player, his agent is a genius, and all is well.

LOLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!! The timing of those 2 posts couldn't have been better.

Kyle Arrington once had 7-8 INTs in a season. It doesn't mean as much as you'd think.

He should never have to pay a beer in New England no matter what team he may go to.

On the other hand, we don't know what made the Pats splash all that money on Gilmore. Did they think Butler is gone after this year so they had to secure a #1 CB? Did they think pairing Gilmore with Butler would be creating a Top-3 secondary but didn't expect Butler and his team to react like they have? All speculations at this point.

My speculation is that this is basically the Welker thing all over again.

The agent is clueless and or held things up. BB was worried he'd end up with no cornerback at all and so went and got Gilmore to cover the team's ass. I base that on the reports that the deal came completely out of nowhere -- not that it was kept under wraps from the media but that Gilmore's agent literally heard about it hours before the deal was done. And now with Gilmore in the fold that makes Butler more replaceable, and also means there's that much less money to be allocated to corners.

Patriots trade draft picks for Brandin Cooks
"
Draft picks are overrated anyway, Cooks is a known good."

Patriots trade Butler for a first round pick
"
Draft picks are vitally important to sustaining a good team. Good riddance."

It got him a 4/17 extension from the Patriots in 2013, which put him in the top 20 in the league for AAV at the time.

Verrrrrry interesting.

And :

OK, that's a bad offer :D

And look what he did when he left for the Ravens? Nothing and he was overpaid to begin with. We all knew he would probably be worthless on another team.

Of course teams are interested. However, are they interested in giving Butler a deal the Pats won't match AND give the Patriots their first rounder.

That's a terrible offer. Then the Pats turn away and pay Gilmore 14 annually? No wonder Butler is frustrated. And even more depressing from that tweet?

'Butler wants to be a Patriot for life'. Geez...

"Patriots players are expected to sacrifice personal stats for the benefit of the team."

then at contract time....

"Butler isn't that good because he only has 7 career INT's and Gilmore had 5 last year alone"

The Patriots signed him to an extension after the 7 pick season. He had exactly 1 the rest of his tenure here, and he was, I think, 33 when he hit the market.

Your example is a poor one.
