Butler's agent in search for 1st rounder + big contract

They have 1 year worth of leverage. They could theoretically accept #32 because they may feel taking #32 today is better than losing him in a year for nothing.

I admit I have no idea what the Patriots are thinking but I find the above very believable.
When was the last time a team traded a pick and traded for that same pick back in the same year? That never happens. That's not going to happen.

Bit off topic but I f**king depise Giardi. Comes off like a smug prick. Guy's job is to hold the mic and ask Curran questions.

Also no clue where he gets off thinking the Pats mishandled Butler. Pretty obvious Butler's agent went to the Pats after his first season as a starter and asked for a top market deal which Belichick probably laughed at. Now he's on the RFA and causing a stink. This guy's incessant need to get Butler a big deal so he can attract more clients is blowing up in their face. Because a team isn't gonna give a deal and a first round pick. So he will either have to sign the tender and play for the $3.9m or he doesn't sign it and sits out the year, guess what, he still a RFA next year and Pats can also lower the RFA salary if he hasn't signed it by a certain date.

They can't negotiate crap. If they offer sheet Butler they have to give up their original #1.
That's not entirely true. As we did with Welker, the Saints could come to a deal with him first, and then negotiate a trade with the Pats.

That's exactly the point. Why should the Pats settle for less than the #11 pick?
Because they may prefer getting the #32 pick today to having him play this year then getting nothing next year.
They own Butler's rights, and can even franchise tag him if need be.
That's the answer everybody has to everything. "Let's franchise Hightower! Let's franchise Garoppolo! Let's franchise Butler!"

You can't franchise everyone
Belichick has the leverage to dictate how a trade agreement gets facilitated.
He has 1 year worth of leverage. After that, it shift to Butler.

People act like the player has no leverage, he can just go to practice and dog it and pretty much force himself out.

He can pretty much be a waste of $3.9 million if that's the way him and his agent want to play it.

Gilmore is under pressure from game 1, if he turns out to be worse than Butler who gets run out of town.

They've given up $40m guaranteed for a question mark when they could of had a known performer for less.

No, they can't (not this year). The deadline to apply the franchise tag was 4 March. That ship has sailed.

If he signs the tender and get's traded to tbe Saints wouldn't it be their highest pick

I doubt any team is giving him a giant money deal and a 1st round pick to the Pats.

If I'm Belichick I tell Butler and his agent to sign the tender and play the year and we'll pick this up again next season....

Or don't and you can waste a year of your career and you'll still be in the same exact situation next offseason...

Because at the end of the day, I'm Bill Belichick and you're an undrafted rookie I gave a chance to, and there's no damn way I'm giving in to your demands and trading you for pennies on the dollar unless I get a 1st back...which most likely isn't going to happen, so sit tight take your $4 mill and shut up.

Lol I don't understand most of what that guy does. Pays a premium for guys like Ingram and Spiller when your offense is already one if the best in the league and the defense blows and you are tight up against the cap.
We dont either. The offense is always over loaded and defense is 3rd pick. Losing Cooks a brilliant WR/RB in my opinion will not even miss a beat in NO with the other WR/ok RB core. Spiller was hardly even played, and now dead cap money.
Makes you think is loomis picking or SP ?

If you personally had the seasons that MB had..won us a SB ect...and saw someone bring in someone else to take your spot getting paid top 4 CB $$...you would be a little pissed off no matter what situation.

I get he waited longer to get his deal ect ect. But you have to admit you would be ticked off hearing that news
We don't even know what he was offered up to now so how can we judge a report about his feelings being hurt?

If you don't think a team has ever traded away a pick, and the re-acquired the same (or similar) pick via other means, then you don't really know football history.

Besides, I never said I thought this was going to happen. I just used it as a theoretical to establish that there is indeed room for negotiation.

He's really in no position to demand to get paid a gigantic contract. He's essentially played only two full seasons in the NFL. His rookie year in 2014 was essentially a red shirt year and while yes, he's known for his play in the Super Bowl, he did virtually nothing that entire season and was inactive for the majority of it.

That's like DJ Foster playing well next season, having a decent year three, then demanding to get paid like Le'veon Bell. Give me a break bro...

His agent is out of his depth. Belichick knew it last year when his agent came to the table asking for top market money after 1 good season...

Loomis needs to go either way lol. He hasn't done much since assembling that awesome 09 team. They could even do it respectfully and promote him to an upper management role that doesn't really exist.

Why would the Patriots be willing to take a lower pick when they have all the leverage to get a higher one?
Because maybe that's the difference between getting a deal done and not getting a deal done?

Steelers beat writer cant recall his name is saying the Steelers should make a play for him.
As could and should the Eagles.

I wouldn't mind the eagles but not the squealers. What pick do the eagles have?

Also, if Butler was intended to be in the original trade all along but could not be included because he wouldn't sign his tender by the time the trade had to be made it would be totally unsurprising for NE to get its pick back in a Butler trade to NO. Because the point of the 2nd trade would be to make the whole thing be what both teams wanted in the first place.
