All quiet on Hightower front or Dont'a-do-it FA tour

I don't see it happening for Hightower on the Jets. In a 3-4 your run stopping LB is one of the traditionally least valuable positions in the front 7. Ideally you just get a run stopping specialist thumper in there and invest in your DE, NT, DE and Elephant LB.

That is how I would think you would do it anyway.

Last time we got into a bidding war with them, they stole Revis from us...

We never were in a bidding war for Revis. His agent such made that up to drive up the Jets price higher. Which conincidentally is what's happening with HT now. His agent trying to increase the price.

Lmao if you think the Jets can get Belichick to budge on anything. It would however be just like the jets to try to fix a problem they don't have while ignoring all of the problems they do have.

You seem to be missing the fact that it won't cost much. We're already spending 6.5 on Harris. He can be cut with no cap hit.

Say Hightower gets a deal worth 9mil per. Cost 2.5mil to get much younger. Jets still have 40mil in cap space.

Absolutely worth looking into.

They have a good ILB and a host of problems, fixing something that isn't broken while the rest of the ship is taking water is as stupid as it gets. Which is why they are probably trying to do it. Some things just never change, and the Jets being dumbassed is definitely one of them.

If Hightower takes a deal with the Jets, I will enjoy watching his miserable career go up in flames, which is inevitable.

I don't think it'll take that long to compete. Ha, for Woody's sake it better not. Too many entertainment options in NY combined with having some of the highest ticket/PSL prices, and 3+ years of not being competitive? ... It'd be a bad result.

They could be competitive next year.

But sure, it's possible to address the need via the draft. Again, at least this drives up the price for NE.

Think about it though. The Jets have like 42 million in cap space now (gotta factor in Sheldon leaving). That's like 5th or 6th most in the league. Wouldn't hurt to spend some of it on a quality FA. Hightower may be the best option.

We have 3 young LBs. Two guys entering their sophomore seasons and Mauldin entering his 3rd. Having a sold veteran at the position would be smart.

Who knows? I'm just happy for some interesting news. Boring FA for Jet fans so far. Curious to see how this plays out.

I guess we're looking at opposite ends with their current roster. I don't see a qb of the future currently signed, forte and Powell are decent, a pedestrian group at wr/TE (not counting decker because of his injury situation), an OL in that transition stage of replacing quality vets like ferguson and mangold, a young lb core who should improve, a secondary in rebuild move starting this year and what should be an outstanding DL with all the draft capital spent on it not exactly living up to their potential. (Leonard Williams the exception). Competing next year? That's like the browns competing this past year (in a lot of ball games but ultimately talent prevails) I'm looking at an over under of 5 wins. If you guys get 7-9 territory that staff should be commended on a job well done

Having a 33 year old LB is a problem. Again, I'll state Harris is my favorite Jet, but eventually ya gotta move on (see Mangold).

Why wouldn't a team with over 40 million in cap space go 6 years younger for a good ILB? For what, an extra 2mil maybe?

And argument otherwise is just foolish. If the Jets only had like 10 million in cap space... ok, save it for glaring holes. But over 40 million free, and you could solidify the LB corps for years to come for chump change? May not have a better option for years.

I also failed to take into account the fact that by signing with the Jets he would be getting paid to only play 16 games a year, whereas in New England he has to play 19.

Having no OL, run game, QB, receivers, and secondary seems to be a slightly bigger problem but by all means try to fix ILB. If getting back to Nashville by the first week of January is High's primary objective then signing with the jets is definitely the way to achieve it.

If we get 7 wins I'll be pissed! If they're not gonna get 8+ this year, they better not get more than 2 wins.

It's time to end the QB black hole here. Get the #1 pick and draft Sam next year. Also carry over like 30 million to go big in FA next year too.

Jets theory:

1. Cut every starting receiver for cap space.
2. Cut our pro bowl center without negotiating a new deal.
3. We'll address our QB situation by showing interest in either Cutler or RGIII.
4. Dump Mevis.

So let's at least win the offseason SB by sticking it to the Pats?

What's the point of having 40 million in cap space when you need 60 million to restock your team?

"You can't be afraid of free agency"

-Bill Belichick

Quote of the f-ing year.

Hes not afraid of it at all. In fact, I think he enjoys it

So you think they should sign Hightower to help them lose at least 14 games?

It's an admirable goal, I'll give you that, but I think he'd ruin your dream. The jets will win at least 4-5 with Hightower,

As of right now you are staring 2-14 in the face.

Quarterback- no
WR- no
RB- meh
O-line- meh
D-line- Meh
LB- no
DBs- no
Coach- meh
GM- ugh

Sorry man but right now you are the 1992 New England Patriots

I expect them to go after Zach Brown once they wrap Hightower up. They have the Bills in their sights.

This doesn't really help the Jets. It's not like they are legitimately competing for the division. They are a bottom feeder team in rebuild mode. All it really does is hurt the Patriots a bit.

HT is making a mistake if he goes to the NYJ. A crap team where he'll likely fade away. If not NE he should choose Tennessee, an up and comer. He'll get paid, but probably not much more than he already would get from the Pats.

I'm annoyed at the thought of LB situation, but HT and the Jets are no threat.
