I don't want Barwin, he isn't that good. I'd take Dumervil or Peppers or even Mario Williams.

Because his 2013-2015 statistics rather clearly show he fell off a cliff?

You mean when he wasn't the #1 Tartget of Tom Brady and became the #4 Target for Peyton Manning and still had 111 Targets and 73 receptions. Oh. If you extrapolate out the extra 60 targets and 39 receptions to what Welker had during his last year with the Pats, you'd see it was right in line.. There was really no fall off other than a reduced number of targets due to the offense he was in.. As I pointed out in my first response to you.

Also, are you taking into consideration that Welker was 32 when the 2013 season started? I don't believe you are..

I'm concerned JE could go down the same path if he continues absorbing some of the big hits he's taken. Welker's history of concussions caught up with him and not that I'm saying Minitron is in the same boat but he's taken some bloody big hits for this team.

Welker's history of concussions caught up with him because he took more while playing for the Broncos thanks to Manning.. You don't see Brady hanging his receivers out to get their heads taken off the way Manning was known for..

Edelman has at least 3 more good years in him, IMHO. This is likely to be Amendola's last. You have a spot for a 5th WR currently. Whether it's Lucien, Floyd, a FA or a Draft pick. But it should be someone who will be behind Edelman, Amendola, Mitchell, and Hogan.. But getting someone like a Cooks, who will demand playing time NOW instead of someone you can bring along in the offense and put him in if Edelman/Amendola get hurt will force you to take snaps from Mitchell, Hogan and Amendola. That doesn't make economic sense nor does it make sense in terms of Mitchell's development,.

Day Two: We need Hightower and Butler resolved. I hope we extend both.

Then comes the smaller contracts:

I would love to sign Odrick who has great versatility on the D/L either as a Tackle or End and you know BB and MP will use him to the best of his abilities and mix it up.

One year prove it deal for Connor Barwin where he might not start but where he can find a niche and set himself up for a bigger contract next season.

Sign a savvy veteran who will play hard to get that championship ring. Choose a DE from Dumervil or Peppers. I imagine DeMarcus Ware is going to be too expensive.

It will be interesting to see if BB finally brings Barwin in. I can remember Barwin being a huge draft binkie of this board and many people were extremely disappointed when BB didn't draft him before the Texans did. And when Barwin was a free agent a back before the 2013, people wanted him before he signed with Philly, yet the Pats supposedly didn't even contact him..

Matthews put up good numbers with mediocre QB's would hate to see what he could do with Brady.

He has bad hands, all those Eagle receivers do.

Hayes is a very good rotational lineman. Frankly, I'd rather have him than Sheard too, and the price was basically nothing. Good move by the Dolphins, however much it hurts me to say it.

If building a potentially Elite Denver type Secondary means not having Brandin Cooks I am all for it. Also the Pats have Michael Floyd in their back pockets but they have to play it like he's getting atleat 4 Games he can't help us in those.

Why do they have to play it like he's getting at least 4 games? The league already has a policy on Alcohol related offenses and Floyd is a 1st time offender.. Not to mention that Goodell set the standard when he only gave Sheldon Richardson a 1 game suspension for driving 140 mph with weed and a child in the car.. Far more egregious than being stopped at a stop light out cold..

those may be the only 3 guys I would take barwin over. Unless we count guys who are officially retired.

Overpayed, old and overrated. Maybe we could get a something close to Long out of Peppers.

I'd take Odrick over any of the guys mentioned. Peppers is 37, Dumervil is terrible against the run.

If Mario Williams still wanted to play and wanted a prove-it deal, great, but I've never thought of him as that kind of guy.

Barwin? I don't know much about him - he was a beast when he was paired with other beasts.

I guess we should resign young underrated Sheard to a big deal and get another whole 2 sacks out of him

Don't remember anyone here saying anything about Sheard so no clue why you are trying to straw man yourself out of your original statement.

I'd be more interested what you see in Mario Williams because he has been looking like 2016 Sheard for a while now.. just with premium pay.

The poster you're replying to has no clue about football. He'll gush over anyone with a big name, even if they're no longer the player they used to be. According to his posts from last season, the vast majority of the players on the roster of the 2016 SB champs were scrubs.

Wouldn't Sheard be the one to decide if he would like to resign? Can you even resign as a free agent? That'd be retirement, no? Lol

The operative word in this paragraph is Goodell. Also Jets.

Mingo will keep riding his "potential" to at least one more contract after also the Colts realize that his body just can't maintain an NFL physique. Amazing. Got paid even after just being a ST player here.
I guess it also gives credence to the notion that teams life to sign Patriots castoffs.

Hard pass on Williams. The guy hasn't cared at his last three stops; he's been mentally checked out for like 5 years.

Well, the Browns just traded their 2017 4th-round comp pick to the Texans for Osweiler, a 2018 2nd-round pick and a 2017 6th round pick.

Essentially, the Browns spent $16M to acquire two draft picks.

They're high on something.
No, they're just being themselves.

Mario Williams? You're crazy dude. Barwin is way better than Williams at this stage in their careers.

I know. Just wanted to bait him into something constructive but doubt anything will come.
