Whats the word on Blount and high?
Should we be worried High is still in Tenn?

Wow. Major insight.

Wow. Major insight.

Is it really criticizing by stating the obvious? He hasn't signed an extension and Belichick went and got one who would. I wouldn't call that anymore than the facts. Even claiming he was asking for the moon, isn't really anything bad. That's more speculation but does make some sense as to why the Patriots got up yesterday and made a quick move on Gilmore. I don't think anything he said is bad, unless I missed something else.

Lombardi was right about Collins. The D got better after Collins left. And he was recently recommending that the Pats extend Butler. So JeffHowe do you explain this tweet?

It's a former Patriot employee making all their dirty laundry public - which is something Belichick always tries to avoid specifically to keep the locker room happy.

That's not how it works.. Butler would not be at 3.9M for the 2018 season. He'd be at the Franchise Tag number for CBs which will close to or over 15M. So you're really asking him to take a 15M pay cut by doing only 5/45 or a 10M pay cut at 5/50.. Especially when you just gave Gilmore a 5/65 deal with 40M guaranteed.

Butler's contract needs to be similar or better than Gilmore's. Maybe a 4/55 or 5/68 deal with 35M guaranteed..

It would be 3.9M for 2017. I don't think they would franchise him at 15M/year.

17: 3.9M
18-22: 13/year =52M

If you want to say it will cost 14-15/year then it's 56 or 60. The point is if a team offer him 5/50 with 25-30M guaranteed he's giving 10-15M for the total of the contract for the security of the now. Plus there's nothing saying he isn't cut at the end of the deal. It's all about the guaranteed money.

Why did they resign fleming. He can't move, most unathletic tackle i've seen.

Damn kb. 7 dislikes in less than a few hours. Remind me to never throw shade at Fleming on this board.

What about this is dirty laundry?

This isn't even remotely comparable to the Collins deal, in which he was pretty much right about. There is no criticism of the player here.

He calls it like it is. Belichick made sure he had a top corner in his defense locked up. There's nothing dirty about it. It's a smart move that gives the team options.

You're saying he should take a 20% paycut for money now. No one does that unless they are Tom Brady who has a model wife making more than him..

Why NFL Teams Shelled Out Millions for the Biggest Free Agents

The Patriots kept trying to sign Malcolm Butler to a long-term extension and kept coming up empty?—?the underpaid hero of Super Bowl XLIX is looking for the moon and then some. Who could blame him? The Patriots’ model during the Belichick years, though: If you cannot get a deal with one key guy, find another. That’s Gilmore.

You may think that's innocuous, but the players view it as if the Patriots are telling the world that Malcolm Butler is asking for a zillion dollar contract. That plays very poorly in the locker room; it's rather Jets-like actually.

The fact that players did not take the criticism well speaks volumes.

1) It's amazing how much they came together, both as a defense and a team following the trade.
2) They hear things, no matter how much they want us to believe that they "ignore the noise".
3) The fact that Lombardi promotes himself as a "Patriots insider" (his Twitter avi is a Patriots SB ring) must have made him feel as though he could blab about anything without anyone's permission. Some guys felt a certain way about that. Again, it didn't impact on field performance.

I'm saying if it was me and I had only earned what he had earned to date I'd take the 25-30 guaranteed now vs the 40M he may or may not get after this coming season. If a team is willing to give him the Gilmore deal now great for him but nobody's giving him UFA money and ponying up a first round pick. A first rounder and a reasonable deal on a top corner they might. His other option is play this year at 3.9M or try to sit out like Mankins but even Mankins had made some money before that deal.

Wouldn't mind Timmons
Twilight and Timmons are best buds. No thanks. I think staying younger in the LB Corp. is ultimately better, even if it means struggling a bit early in the season. The D-line should be vastly improved and the secondary looks to be in good shape, and maybe even able to withstand a potential MB departure.

I wish we knew this before we traded for Allen.

Doubt it would have mattered. By trading they got Allen on a friendly contract for 2-3 years instead of having to go through FA and negotiations.

Still see absolutely nothing there. Even if you assume he is spreading what Bill is telling him.

When you factor in that it's unlikely he's revealing what Bill actually said, and is forming his own opinion, it means even less. This isn't news coming from the Patriots. It's a former employee. Pro athletes are big boys. Everyone has an opinion. They can deal with it. It doesn't mean it's Bill spilling it. If Bill had a problem with it, he would shut Lombardi up real quick.

Complete overreaction.

Maybe those players should ignore the noise... you know..

Big difference when "the noise" is your boss's former right hand man telling the world the team's dirty laundry. This isn't some random reporter who gets his info from leaks, etc. This is a former high ranking member of the team himself putting his name behind it.

I don't think you understand that with the last CBA that was signed, players who are tendered a contract (Franchise / Transistion / RFA/ ERFA) count against the roster immediately.

That means that Butler, Fleming, Coleman, Lengel, and King count on the Roster,
@Miguel noted that Brandon King's name was not on the Free Agency List released by the NFL yesterday..

Miguel's page had the Pats at 56 before the resigning of Harmon and Branch or the signing of Gilmore. If you add those 3, that puts them at 59, ala Long Distance's OP.

The Pats have 31 roster slots available with 8 draft picks currently.

Yep. My bad on the count.

I inadvertently left the futures-contract guys from the PS off my contract spreadsheet.

HOWEVER, I do understand about the tagged and tendered guys and had, indeed, included them. In fact, I understand a metric crap-tonne more about this stuff than you oh-so-obviously think I do.

So, I'll ask you nicely to take your condescending trolling of my posts somewhere else, please.
