First off, it's difficult to agree that Butler is a "top 5 CB." I think most of us would have him in the top 12-15 range, and even that may be slightly generous, obviously depending upon personal opinion about his weaknesses. He did however, go from an UDFA who wasn't even a lock to make the team on opening night 2015, to a very solid and dependable starter. In my opinion, I'd like to see him stay and I definitely share your concerns about making the trade.Butler
-Top 5 CB in the league
-High character/team guy
-Plays his ass off
-Overachiever underdog story
-2x champion, clutchest play in SB history
Cook
-Not even a top 15 WR
-Low character/me first guy
-Literally COMPLAINED after a game the Saints won in a blowout (49-21) because he had no catches: Report: Brandin Cooks is growing frustrated with Saints’ offense
I ****ing hate this idea.
Keep Butler and have one of the best secondaries in the NFL. The team has the money, the contract will be for prime of his career...what's the issue here?
In the end, BB is the one making the talent evaluations, and apparently he thought Gilmore was ranked higher than Butler or else he wouldn't have given him the richest contract for a defensive player in NEP history. It is what it is, I guess. At this point, I'm just hoping that Butler is here for 2017, but I think the odds are low of him returning on a long term deal. His money went to Gilmore.
