Butler For Cooks Deal Being Hashed Out Between NE-NO

It's so demoralizing following this team. It feels like watching The Walking Dead (which I quit at the beginning of season 7- don't miss it) There is absolutely no point in getting attached to any of the characters because it's inevitable that they will meet an untimely demise. Kind of like Pats players. At what point does this affect player morale and loyalty. The Pats must have a well earned reputation round the league. I'm surprised we are able to attract any free agents at this point.

Don't be shocked when Bill resigns Garopollo and trades Brady next offseason for a second or third round pick. He is stone cold and this organization is obsessed with long term contention rather than short term greatness.

This has to go down as one of the worst posts, not just in the history of this message board, but the history of the internet. You're either trolling us or you're as dumb as a rock.

Cooks will be awesome for the offense and will mean the WR crew is set for another 4-5 years -- Cooks, Mitchel, Hogan is a very good core for the future. When Edelman, Amendola leave, we'll be able to replace them with WR4 and WR5 easily. If Floyd stays, that's a bonus.

But I am worried that our defense will need some serious help. Losing your best two LBs (probably, assuming hightower goes), your best DT, your 2 best CBs all in a year is tough. We replaced one CB, but I'm not sure how they plan on replacing the others.

Cooks is only signed for 2 more years. It is very possible he goes to the highest bidder, which would not be us. It's a stretch to count on him for 4-5 years at this point.

I'm not sure about your defensive losses comment. How did we lose our best DT? We return Branch and Brown. How do we lose our top 2 LBS? It's premature to assume Hightower is gone at this point. Who is #2? Collins? Considering he was gone mid year and we won the Super Bowl without him, I'm not sure how you could count him as a loss from last year's team. He wasn't a part of the playoff run.

I am thinking troll. Nobody is this stupid. Then again if anyone could be this stupid I guess its him.

The thing people seem to be missing about Butler 'getting paid' is that he is a RFA and has no leverage, why would the Pats give him a Gilmore deal unless it accounts for this year's discount. It's like buying out arbitration years in baseball. Keep him this year. Then you still have the tag option next. It doesn't look like we'll have anyone else worth tagging. I'll take Butler for 2 years at around 20 million.

But what if he sits out and is willing to lose all of his $$? Do we THEN pay? Trade? It's all in play right now. Deal...trade for Cooks...ect

He doesn't seem like the type to sit out and lose 15 million if he's tagged. In fact nobody seems that way to me except guys like Norman.

So take this with the whole box of salt, but this tweet mentions Hopkins...

they usually do that with something called an extention

If the saints are asking for what's being reported, it makes sense to explore this.
Could be a leverage move on the Saints too. Either way, I'm a fan.

I'd prefer Hopkins, although Cooks is a bit younger. Hopkins gives you size AND runs all the routes, while stretching the field.

BB's on a roll how about both?
Remember what Jacoby did to Houston offer him and a second this year and next for Denadre.
Call Payton and trade Butler for Cooks.
Watch NFL cry

actually, cooks is one of the best route runners in the league......which is why at his size, he is so effective in the red zone

How did that work out 2005-2013? The man is not perfect. Just because he makes a move doesn't mean that it can't be moronic. And this looks moronic.

They had the best record in the NFL between 2005 and 2013, and were a shoelace away from winning 2 Super Bowls.

No kidding, that's my point, but with Butler not being a FA he has to be willing to take less than an unrestricted FA. Not sure he and his agent understand that.

Mike Trout should be the highest paid player in baseball but he isn't because he took the certainty of a long term deal rather than going through arb years and maybe not getting it.

Amen, but my sig indicates he has competition.

Not happening but I would crap my pants if we landed Hopkins.
