Butler For Cooks Deal Being Hashed Out Between NE-NO

It'll be pretty damned funny is Butler isn't talking to anyone and is just getting ready to play.

And the Pats work out a long-term deal with him in April.

We need cooks! Pat dye Jr. is out of his mind. I am ok with sending them butler,

Yeah and Belichick is great at what he does if he wants to swap Gilmore for Butler then it'll probably end up being a upgrade but i was just talking about the needless smear campaign on the way out that will happen like it did with Collins, not really any need for it.
that is an accurate description of the homers here

Of course most of them don't know what to think until Bill tells them. Like right now many of them will say we don't need a WR, but if Bill trades Butler and we get Cooks they'll all tell you what an obvious need it was and how genius of a move Bill made.

Hey if you had to trade with a team to lose Butler would you want him on the Saints . At leastle you know hes happy.
And its not like Cooks wouldnt shred us in a SB with you lol

At about 30+ million in cap space after today's deals.

We can make Butler & Gilmore work longterm.

Could sign Hightower & Butler and still have more than enough cap to bring into the draft/season.

If they can actually work that it would be great given the way football is played now. That's two physical corners who can cover, and they have the slot corners with the Joneses, and another corner with size in Rowe.

Wouldn't Butler and HT be looking at the 13-15 M/yr range? Not so sure about that

Panic not, Grasshopper. Many of these contracts are back loaded for salary with 1st year being the lowest hit.
Why?
1) Cap rises
2) Pats can cut or renegotiate in year last if performance sliding

I got to say if this deal happens it helps both our teams. We need a Butler or a good LB, and Cooks is very good. I dont usually project greatness on a player. I did on AP, and Cooks is that good. He has WR skills but a RB ability. Would be a great pickup for NE

Huge respect for everything Malcom has done on the field and always liked hearing him talk-that confidence just comes out.

I think it is very doubtful that we end up paying him a contract beyond this year with all the money we know have tied up in other defensive backs. He is a player who deserves so much more than what he has been paid. Hate it when sports writers harp on how he should be happy because it is more than he has made in his career. If he was on the market this year, I think he would have gotten more than Gilmore.

I would rather keep Butler for 1 year and get our 3rd round comp pick early than to have Cooks for 2 years. Of course this depends on if Butler will stay and play or hold out. I could see him do a "business" hold out like Mankins did.

Has NO gotten out of cap hell? if they want Butler it is going to be expensive.

No we only have 30 mil cap left because of the Godell days. But we do need a guy like Butler

Get ready for fake stories to leak out about how much money Butler wanted and how he was never a team guy.

Everyone here is gonna gobble it up.

He "never played the defense"
I think it already appears one page earlier. There's a post stating Lombardi said he asked for the moon and stars. His agent, however, stated there were not contract talks at all this year.

I expect that if Hightower is getting those kind of offers, he'd be gone already. Reportedly, Tenn wasn't in the 11-13 range, or something like that.

Butler comes with a disadvantage - to him. THe Pats will likely work out a deal with him, BUT they're going to want this year's discount built into it.

Think of 5/60 (12 APY) as 4/56 (14 APY) plus this year's 4m.

He secures his future against injury and spends the next 5 years across from another very good corner, and with very good safeties...and for BB.
