He was on the team since week 4 preseason and barely got any defensive snaps. Van Noy was acquired midseason and actually had the green dot at some point.

Tells you what Belichick thought of his ability to play on this defense. He probably offered him a contract appropriate for a STOP.

Right - and I'm sure Belichick was using Slater as the benchmark there, that no one can make more than Slater in that role. Colts paid more than the Pats are playing Slater I believe.
