Bills FA CB Stephon Gilmore signs 5-year deal w/New England

Best CB duo we've fielded in the BB era vs. personnel on offense that will rival 2007. Fun being a pats fan.

Regardless of whether or not the moves pan out, Belichick is seriously ruthless with his players (which may be a good thing or a bad thing, again, we will see how it pans out).

He's been ruthless for 17 years. Can't argue with the results.

Schef retweeted it....it's really happening.

Schefter re-tweeting it doesn't mean anything other than he retweeted an unconfirmed tweet..

A few CB scenarios

- Ryan gone, Butler signs with another team and we get a 1st rounder we use to draft a CB that we control for 5 years. We ride with Gilmore, Rowe, Cyrus Jones and rookie, not bad.

- BB and Butler are in good spirits about paying him next year and realizing he has no leverage. No holdout, he plays this year for 3.9 Mi which is already a salary bump and cash in next year here or elsewhere. We ride with Gilmore, Butler, Rowe, CJ and may draft a CB in day 2.

- Ryan realizes he is going to get exposed if gets a #1 CB job in a sorry ass franchise and decides to stay here where he knows the coaching staff is smart. Gets 8/9 Mi a year instead of a bit more elsewhere and keeps winning. Either that or he realizes the market is not so strong for him. Can still hit the free agency in a few years. Butler is gone signing with other team or traded with the Saints. We ride with Gilmore, Ryan, Rowe and CJ.

- Ryan gone, Butler extended or the Pats match the offer. Very unlikely.

- No scenario where Ryan and Butler stays long term.
Cap hits last year combined for mccourty butler Chung Rowe Ryan Harmon = just under 13.5 mill.

We just signed gilmore for 14 mill a year.
I think Ryan for 9 or butler for another 14 or so is a pipe dream.

Id bring back Harmon for sure maybe trade Chung.
I think Harmon has more upside.

This sucks to be honest with butler it shows you that this game's all about the business side. I will be forever grateful for his play here. The guy was nothing but a team player. I hope he gets paid

Don't feel too bad for him. He's a two time SB champion, a local favorite and he'll get paid.

It'll suck to see him go though. I enjoyed his feistiness on the field.

It better be straight up and no picks involved.
At this point BB is so invested Im afraid Payton may try to fleece us.

Butler's going to get paid, and deservedly so, but probably not from NE. If they can get Cooks now I say go for it.

I'll root for Butler until the day I die, but better a year too early than a year too late.
You have to see the big picture.
BB prefers Gilmore to butler. You can't let the emotion of what a player did for you make you think he is better than you grade him.
If that's the case then butlers money when to Gilmore.

That means you have a short term asset in butler. You can either keep him for a year then get nothing or trade him when you can get the most for him.

Personally I would rather trade him for a player in the trenches than a WR but the job here is to get the most you can out of your assets.

The only thing I don't like about Gilmore's signing is the price. $14 million is a lot for a CB that has inconsistent effort and tackling. No doubt he's a better CB than Ryan but he has not played like a true CB1 for the Bills and we just made him one of the highest paid CBs in the league, for 5 years as well.

But then again this is Bill. The only bad FA signing that didn't pan out well was Adalius Thomas. I do hope Gilmore plays much better with us.

Payton and BB have mutual respect. He wouldn't stoop to that.

I like the signing, but not sure I agree Gilmore is better than Butler.

He isn't. But he isn't much worse. I'd take Butler over Gilmore but the difference is between maybe the 5th best CB and the 10th best.

if a team decides they want butler he's gone. no way pats match. they are also talking about a trade with the saints for cooks on the sports hub.

So you think there's a team out there willing to give MB a max contract PLUS give NE their 1st round pick? I love MB, but that's a stretch.

I don't like this at all, my cousin is a bills fan and when we talk cb he always tells me gillmore doesn't have half the compete level of butler.

I'm really unhappy if we pay Gilmore and lose butler.
