Patriots preparing for the prospective loss of Blount

I think it's 70/30 he's staying. If the money is close he'll remember that he left for another team and it went off the rails. Money is important but it doesn't buy complete happiness.

With that said I'd like to see them draft a RB who might not be as big, quicker to the hole that LG can help groom.

I hope he stays and hopefully he is realistic with his contract. He is good, but not great, so I wouldn't break the bank for him. But I like the guy and he fits in well here.

The guy has made 6mil total in his years in the NFL, Even if he was prudent with his money, the odds are he is not in position to set himself up. I hope some other team gives him 3 years and 12.

If Blunt wants to re-sign for the same deal that he signed last year, then that's cool.
I wouldn't sign him for even one dollar more than that.
Whether he does or doesn't re-sign does not hide the fact that we must have young, fresh legs at Power Back, and this is a good draft to use a late 3rd/4th rounder on one.

Would be super bummed to see him leave

Who will be the everyday RB with Blount " weeded" out?

If he was prudent with six million dollars, he is set up.

Well he made 6, but the government got half. So if he saved 1/2 the money he took home he would have 1.5 mill, a safe investment now a days probably yields 5% or 75,000 before taxes and insurance- or about 40,000 a year take home. a nice nest egg, but not something I call "set up"

I respect and appreciate what Blount has done in New England, especially at the goal line. I also think this team needs a new featured running back who's a genuine threat to gain more than 2 yards on first down.

I want him back and he wants to be back but I can definitely see a team that is a run-first team being very interested in him and for much more money. So I can't blame him for wanting to get paid if that's the case. I mean if he can run for over 1,000 yards and lead the league in TDs with NE, a team that runs the ball to set up the pass, (obviously with the GOAT at QB) then it's not hard to believe a team that can run it would pay him good money, especially a team with QB issues like Houston or Denver.

There's a ton of places he could end up depending on what the cost is but he really seems like the type of guy that loves the fans and loves being here. He walked away from pretty good money in Pittsburgh to play for less than a mil here because being happy was more important than the money to him. But when you make 700k it's hard not to look over your shoulder when someone's offering you a $24-$30 mil contract lol.

Whatever he decides, I thank him for 2 SBs and for being a good teammate and model citizen.

He has an important role but looking at his stats they aren't all that impressive, unless you put a lot of stock in those 1-2 yard TD's. I think he averaged like 3.8 or 3.9 YPA and he made a big time boo boo in the Super Bowl... Bill doesn't like it when guys drop passes, fumble or play poorly in the Super Bowl. He is north of 30 I wouldn't pay him more than 1.5m. Supposedly its a deep draft for RB's.

We could use an upgrade for that power running back.

False dichotomy. Put your fresh legs behind an established cap friendly power back, let Blount do his thing while the new back gets his feet wet and ease the new kid in. When the new guy is 100% ready, then ship the old guy out and not before. That's what we did with other running backs we've developed over the years -- Benjarvus Green-Ellis springs to mind as an example.

I hope he stays but if he gets silly money elsewhere then good luck to him. I wouldn't begrudge him a big payday elsewhere.
Yeah, especially not after just having the best year of his pro career.

I put a lot of stock in TDs because without TDs you don't score, lol. When his number was called in the red area, a place BB puts a ton of emphasis on, he produced. That's all you can ask for. But, between the hashes and the 20s, it takes him a good while to get going. And I agree, if a team is willing to pay him a motherload to be their 20-30 carry guy at his age then God bless.

He's getting older and he's always been useless in the postseason against any team other than Indy.
Yeah, I have to agree despite the fact that I really like him and he's been nothing but a great member of the organization.
