Pats interested in Saints WR Brandin Cooks

And honestly if I'm the Saints I'd feel a lot more comfortable dealing his talent to a team that doesn't have two GOATS.

Brady deserves cooks, not Tennessee. Cooks would rot away in Tennessee

Come on Bb offer a little more get cooks here. I want brady to have really nice things, he's earned it
Actually, I think Tennessee has the pieces to be a pretty good team soon. Mariota is good, if somewhat injury-prone, and their run game is very good. Getting legitimate receiving threats could make for a nice offense - and it's not like the rest of their division offers any "elite" competition. They could easily win the division next year.

I'm mixed on it. I'd love to have Cooks and would certainly trade the last pick of the first round for him, all things being equal. But I do worry about what he's going to want in his next, upcoming contract.
Absolutely.

Question BB is the highest paid coach in the NFL our players should fit suite.
It would be hard fot me to be sold to take less when I know the man in front of me is highest paid.

Yeah though he wants more balls. I think this is common with competitive good players.
Id be unhappy not getting the ball if I can produce.
I for one would not be happy to risk a 1st round pick on a unknown, when you know what you have a 1st round player that is overly motivated to die for the ball. Cooks is a tank and not injury prown. More I think about it, this looks like a worse and worse move for the saints, lol. Hes a proven very good WR with speed, and very competitive, Find better highlights with better music. Im not crazy about the rap junk either

He is very motivated, and a smart guy, and I kind of think the arrow thing is cool
More I think about it cooks is a bargin for 32 maybe. SP might not want to break up the cooks, thomas tandum. But if BB could work it than youd have a solid player for for 3-4 seasons. Id expect a better trade or no deal. You watch this kid and you know like the great Edelman he has it..Not as good but hes got it.

Grantland also had a great feature piece on Cooks leading up to the 2014 draft that I think anyone who likes his game should watch. I liked him in college, but liked him even more after reading it: The Big Promise of Brandin Cooks. After reading that, it's really hard to conclude that he's anything other than an asset re: locker room culture, teamwide accountability, and overall mental toughness. If you're trying to build a locker room full of mentally tough, hardworking leaders, he's exactly the kind of guy you want.

Every offseason, we have a dozen different threads about "we should trade our first rounder for player X who's either super expensive already or will be in 1-2 years, because that guy is better than what we will likely pick at the end of the first round" and 90% of the time I'm one of the guys going the other way and arguing that cost control is too important, and there's a ton of talent available in the late first, and it's where the Pats get the premium production at a cheap price that's pretty much necessary to make your cap structure work. It's not a familiar position to be on the other side of things, arguing that we *should* make a trade like this for a guy who's on the tail end of his rookie deal. But Cooks is that good, and that perfect of a fit. I'd trade the 32 for him without question.

The Titans will be top 5 in the AFC next year if Mariota stays healthy. Not sure how he will rot away there.

Doubt that the Saints care much about where in the AFC he lands. It's not like they will compete for the SB in the near future (i.e. 2017). As long as he is out of the NFC (South) they will just take the best package that meets/exceeds their demands..

I like him. Seems more like Deion Branch to me IMO.

He's a solid kick returner as well. A little heavier than Branch, but I'd love to see him in a Patriots offense. I worry about both Amendola's and Edelman's durability going forward. I love those guys, but both have taken lots of big hits and missed time due to leg or foot injuries that don't bounce back as you get older. Mitchell, Cooks, Gronk, Hogan, Lewis and White is a loaded receiving corps.

I also think Bennett will be back. Bennett loved winning and if his market isn't what he thinks it it is, NE a is perfect fit for the next two years.

Bennett won't get more than 7 mil from us. I want hightower back. He's the most important player this offseason.

Cooks 3 cone time is freakish

Make a deal!

I'd imagine Belichick could make much more with another team if that's what he opted to do.

Agree about Cooks. He is a little thicker than Branch.

Not sure about Bennett. Tough one to call.

This can't be true. We've been assured that the Patriots don't need WR help.

If Bennett gets $7 million/year from anyone, I'd be stunned. Bennett turns 30 on Friday. At 30, years mean nothing in a contract, it's all about the guaranteed money. My guess he gets a 4-year deal for $30 million with $12 or $13 million guaranteed - like Greg Olsen's deal with Carolina. The Patriots might match the guarantee with added incentives, and go three years.

NFL Contracts

I completely agree on Hightower who I think might be back. He's testing the market, and should. He will get some great offers, but it has to be a contender ready to hand him the defensive play-calling duties. I don't know the market well enough, but I doubt he goes to a bottom dweller if the Patriots show willingness to compete for his services.

Isn't it average?

Brandin Cooks Mockdraftable profile

In the context of WRs, who typically have just about the best 3 cone times, Cooks' time is still very good. Calling it freakish is an overstatement, but 79th percentile against all other WRs makes it a whole lot better than than average. His shuttle, short shuttle, and 40 times OTOH are all elite, and you could reasonably call them freakish.

They can keep Cooks then the Pats can get another Malcolm Mitchel via the draft. Juju Smith-Schuster or Chad Hansen.
