Floyd not working out?

Currently Floyd is not allowed to leave Arizona for the duration of the post-jail home detention part of his sentence. He has to ask the court for permission to let him leave the state. I have less than zero idea how likely or not permission would be granted if asked for.

I've asked this of some friends who are familiar with this kind of thing, and they've told me this. On the surface he can't leave the state, HOWEVER he can apply to the court for an exception if it is work or family related, and 90% of the time if it's reasonable they give their permission.

So say, going to OTA's in NE for a few weeks or a few days would likely be permitted as long as he followed any rules they set up for him in AZ while he's in MA. I doubt that would amount to a lot of time out of the state. Coincidently AZ is were a lot of NFL athletes train in the off season.

So in the end, if the Pats or any other team signs him, I don't think his case is going to cause him to miss many team activities before TC.

Well, for all we know it's routine for judges to grant such requests . Anyone here an Arizona DUI lawyer?

God bless them if they are, but aside from the harsher sentencing and normal differences between state law specifics, would it really be that much different than another state's DUI/alternative sentencing procedures?

Seems to me that there are lots of variables in play here, and as usual, whether or not the judge got laid last night may matter more than you'd think. You would know better than I, but on the surface it appears as though they feel as though Floyd deserved a harsh punishment. Like Ken says though, it's certainly possible that he could get a couple of weeks granted here and there. Will the Patriots want to put up with any of this nonsense? I doubt it but I still want him back on a cheap one year deal.

While I'd like to see him back, with a full offseason to build chemistry, I'm not sure he will be. As many have mentioned, it's likely going to come down to price. As well as, what other options are available.

Also him not learning the playbook fast enough was so evident on many snaps against Miami and the Texans where he looked lost at the LOS. If you rewatch the broadcast or even better the all22 then you can see that multiple times he clearly had no idea about the expected route/role - especially on audibles.

Now that I re-read it, you're absolutely right. Sorry, bud. Yeah, I'm sure Floyd is bigger, but I can see that comparison better than the other in the sense that I'd agree with shmessy about Mitchell being a bit slight. It's probably why my brain went to the other comparison instead.

We are kinda loaded at wide out with Edelman, Hogan, Dola, and Mitchell. I don't think I'd re sign if I were Floyd.

3 of them are prone to injuries. Malcolm's game is probably closest to Floyd. But maybe the Pats take the draft rout if a bidding war breaks out. But with his status uncertain I think the Pats have the leg up to keep him.

No Givens was definitely built bigger but Givens never had the speed that Mitchell has.

Which is why I think the Mitchell-Givens comparison doesn't work at all. They are nothing alike.

That's pretty much the nail in the coffin for Floyd and the NEP, unless they can agree to a one year deal at a minimal cost. Missing the entire offseason program isn't going to sit well, but with Floyd's upside, they could still take a shot on him with a full training camp. I highly doubt it, though.

On one hand, I agree with you. However, I could see Brady and the WRs going to Arizona to workout instead of to Cali. Not to mention that there is a place there that the Corners go to work out as well..

I don't see anyone saying that it is a reasonable expectation for him to learn it all. Point is that he was inactive because he couldn't do it in that time no matter if it is reasonable to expect him to do it.

Then you haven't watched it. There are multiple instances where he is visibly confused at the LOS, asks others something and then adjusts.

None of this is a knock on him but just reality. I'd expect that he'd look more confident after a full offseason in the offense.

He put in tons of extra work. And not one report of him being drunk during that time.. And considering that he was a part of the SB winning team, that should tell you something right there.

He is a drunk guy, DaBruinz. He is currently in jail and will be under strict guidelines for completing the rest of his 120 day incarceration under a close, watchful eye.

When you have multiple public instances of being drunk and blow a breathalyzer 3x the legal limit which lands you a 120 day incarceration--you've got a drinking problem. The idea that we'd take a guy who would currently be the WR4 or WR5, and cater to him and his criminal justice punishment seem like a stretch for professionals like Bill Belichick and company. Like I said before, we will see, but I don't think many of us will be holding our breath.

Which one? There have been 3 in the past five years. Two of them (Notre Dame and Arizona) have either led to indefinite suspensions or being kicked off the team altogether.

I completely understand that it is hypothetically possible for Belichick to take a chance and have Brady, Edelman, and Gronk all change up their offseason plans and routines for....Michael Floyd and his attempt at staying sober.

Judging by your sarcasm you seem to have taken it personally. Apologies if so.

But dude, you suggested that Michael Floyd will be given such high priority and is such a special talent that the responsibility of him learning and practicing our system will somehow fall on the team--in the extreme sense that several players would fly and spend time in the state of AZ just to make that happen.

Of course I don't think that, but you're right that my comment could use some clarification: when I say Belichick would "take a chance," I'm referring to even having him on the team. Not dictating other players schedules and routines.
