Christian McCaffrey ?

I say we focus on OL, Pass Rush, LB or CB early in the draft. Some pretty good (especially in our system) RBs will be there in the later rounds. Guys like Joe Mixon, Alvin Kamara, James Connor, Donta Foreman, etc..

I don't understand the fascination with this guy. There are a dozen highly skilled, athletic offensive skill position players who will be drafted in the first two rounds. Why a thread just for him? Has he said something about wanting to play for the Pats? Did someone from the Pats say something about him? I'm missing the history/connection.

Not first round, but the Pats did draft Shane Vereen in the second round. That's plenty high enough, and Mccaffrey is the much better prospect.
I will admit I feel very "Colts-like" to suddenly want this guy so much in the first round. They always draft some small shiny offensive player when the Pats do the right thing and Draft some beast on the D or O line or somethng.

It's funny that you are actually criticizing the existence of this thread first of all. LOL

But the reason I opened the thread is because I read a couple mock drafts that had him at 32 with the Pats, so I started looking at his video. The only other mocks I saw us not take him, he was drafted higher in the first round. So he is highly valued. And yes, after the little I have seen now I think Belichick/McDaniels and Brady would turn this kid into a Super Star. He would NOT just be classic running back in out system. He would equatable to Gronk in terms of the kinds of mismatches he would end up getting with all the other weapons on the field with him.
EDIT: I now think if he is there at 32 the Pats take him.

I would like another pass rusher. I wouldn't mind watt's brother t.j watt. Focus on OL as well.

It is more interesting that you interpreted what I asked as a criticism. I'm making a simple inquiry. Normally the interest in individual players is either done on the draft forum as an individual thread, or here as part of a larger thread on all possible draftees.

I think if we can trade Jimmy G and see if we get a second rounder this could easily happen.. All going to depend on that

They all look good in their videos.

They do, but Mccaffrey the real deal.

Go take a look at the 2016 Rose Bowl. He single handily dominated a very good Iowa team. He should have been the Heisman winner that year.

The race-based comparisons are silly. To me he is Darren Sproles: dynamic on every down. A football-first guy, too, it seems. I don't expect us to pick an offensive player at #32, but if we did and it was him, I'd be pretty excited.

I liked Manxman comparison better. He's Leveon Bell lite. Hes got some power to him. He's not a bruiser but he keeps his legs moving. Again, he's never gonna be confused for a Marshawn Lynch, but he doesn't fall down from a gust of wind either.

If he was 15 lbs heavier he's not only the best back in this draft, but the best offensive player.

He is the epitome of what this team looks for in a player. Football first, versatile as hell, comes from a football family. It almost makes too much sense him coming here.

I'm to the point I'd draft Mccaffrey, let Blount walk, have Mccaffrey, Lewis and White split carries. If we need the tough yards on 4th and 1, hand it off to Bolden or call up Gaffney. By seasons end Lewis was seeing more carries than Blount. Lewis and Mccaffrey will keep defenses more honest. Makes Brady's play action THAT more lethal.

Brady and McDaniels could bring out the best in this kid.

No at 32, maybe at 64.....

He won't even be there at 32. You can take that to the bank. If he's there at 32, it would be a steal for the Pats. By his 3rd year, he will be one of the best backs in the league.

Hes a terrific, dynamic player. In my opinion, he's not a #1, particularly for NE.

Most Mock drafts are putting in first round around 20 or s0. All the others have him with Pats at 32.
