BTW, TFB's Not So Subtle Point for Gronk in the MMQB Interview Pt.2

Sorry for the bad wording about "Dig" - - I was in a coffee shop and was typing quickly. I'll edit the title.

It was a pointed reference.

.
I still disagree. Fight me!

That is not Brady's style. I think he is talking about himself and that is it.

You DO understand he has a BUSINESS that he purposely located at Patriots Place and a business plan to franchise nationally?

Anyone paying attention the past 3 years knows full well that this guy is as evangelical on the subject as the starriest eyed Hare Krishna.

Brady specifically dissing Gronk there? I dunno... seems like a...

...stretch.
Reed Richards FTW!

Yeah, I have to agree. It just seems like you take from it probably what YOU feel about the Gronk situation, not necessarily Tom. I think what was far more telling was in the game against the Jets when the sideline reporter said Bill's reply to the Gronk injury was, "We're used to it." I think that resonated far more clearly and showed that there is some growing exasperation there. How that impacts anything going forward is obviously not something I am even in the neighborhood of being qualified to say. However, I feel exasperated with him and I'm just a fan, so I can't imagine they don't. But I'll say this, any team with Gronk on it is automatically a better team, so I don't see why the 'trade Gronk' stuff has seemingly gained so much traction.

Well, Jules still missed seven games last year and Danny missed five this year, so...

Brady never said it was 100% absolute - there will still be injuries - just fewer and quicker to recover from.

It was incredible how quickly Edelman came back to play last year - - he should have been IR'ed. And it was incredible how he came back this year with 98 catches for 1,106 after having a broken foot. Yes, he missed time, but look at the first 4 years of his career vs. the second 4 years when it comes to durability. It's a Tale of Two Careers.

I couldn't imagine being Brady and having everyone prospecting for slights in every single thing I said.

Say flexibility is important? Dig at Gronk.

Thank your family after the AFCCG? Dig at Rodgers.

I honestly wouldn't do interviews anymore, if I were him.
SAY IT AGAIN! I just throw my hands up at this point. But alas, I guess it just comes with the territory when you reach his stratosphere. Next to LeBron, he's probably the most recognizable athlete on the planet . . . and even that is probably only because basketball is more of a global sport right now. So his every action, syllable, breath will be scrutinized. But it's still so annoying that everything is being dissected to the point where people are just filling in the blanks with whatever they feel should be there.

I really thought Brady's statement was a legitimate plug for TB12 the business. Brady truly believes in his training and dieting programs. He was selling it to other athletes. I doubt Brady would take a shot at Gronk through the media unless it was in jest.

When Edelman does not break bones, he is available.

This is true of the last 4 years since he took on the regimen. It's funny how people comment without reading the article.

.

With Gronk it may be about more than just the number of receptions. Denver, Houston, and Atlanta used press man coverage with some success against the Pats after Gronk got hurt last season.

All 3 of those teams are on the schedule for 2017, and they might be less willing to use man to man with a healthy Gronk rumbling through their secondary.

I am all for training smart and looking for new approaches. That said, Gronk had a blown-out knee, a broken arm and a bad back he has had for years. I could see about flexibility and his hamstring issues - but many of his injuries have nothing to do with being pliable.

I think you'd be surprised what improving your flexibility and conditioning on the ligaments in particular can do for skeletal issues. The ligaments are the shock absorbers that prevent damage to the skeleton. Healthy ligaments can absolutely mitigate or prevent knee and back damage. Strengthening the supporting muscles can even help restore mobility to joints that have already suffered permanent damage from injury or arthritis.

Any trainer will tell you, if you focus on training for raw physical strength without training for endurance and flexibility, you're putting a lot more strain on the joints than they're used to, and there will be consequences. Obviously Gronk's not stupid enough to ignore flexibility and endurance entirely, but suggesting that he may need to adjust his workout balance isn't entirely off base.

I think it's very likely that Brady has said all of this stuff to Gronk himself *several times* in the locker room and in other settings.

I think there is a 0% chance that Brady was intentionally taking a dig at Gronk through the media. He was speaking generally about all the players and opponents he's dealt with over the years. He's probably pissed that people are construing that he was talking a shot at Gronk.... even if he 100% believes that statement does apply to Gronk and is pissed that Gronk isn't taking him up on that regimen.

We need the dude healthy. I think some in the organization are getting almost as antsy about his health as some of us here.

Interesting dynamic.

1) Brady is evangelical about his TB12 business and, if you heard him even before this interview - say, the WEEI one last year - he can be almost Moonie about it.

+

2) Gronk's dad Gordon's family business is 180 degrees the opposite.
Gronk's Fitness Company Is Officially Live

Equals

3) You have the makings of a huge fitness culture clash, right there. I'm surprised this is going over some people's heads.

Edelman missed time with a broken arm and foot even before 2013. He has also missed time due to concussion(s). He has been remarkably free of soft tissue injuries that kept him out. This is not to say that the new training has not helped limit injuries he was playing through.

For the nth time - I changed the mistaken wording in the thread title 15 minutes ago.

Put me in to the group that agrees that everything Brady says about training and preparing for contact is absolutely correct. But also put me into the group that thinks that inferring Brady was talking directly to Gronk is a really big stretch. In fact it's more than a stretch, it's just another attempt to CREATE a narrative that draws interest to his article.

After reading the article, I don't even think Curran was trying to link Brady calling out Gronk. I think he was simply suggesting that Gronk could benefit from putting some of Brady's off season strategies to use, as Edelman has. So the click baiting must be from our OP's headline.

BTW- News that Gronk's successful back surgery is great, but regardless of the fact that he's played in close to 8o% of all the regular season games, he is perceived as an injury prone player. That is not going away, so I would hope that THIS off season he looks at some other options that might help change this perception. And going across the street to TB12 just might be an answer.

Read Post #32

And, yes, it is not 100% - it just prepares the body better and yields better results.

In the words of Parcells 'You ain't winnin' us any games from the whirlpool'.

Of course he believes in his training and dieting program, you have to judge a tree by its fruits. I can't recall ANY athlete who has been able to do what Brady has done the last year or two. Normal human-type athletes when they get near 40 suffer from a gigantic drop-off in athletic production and they become much, much more injury prone. What does Brady do? Despite having virtually the entire offense riding on his shoulders, his performance is a good as ever at 39. Even more remarkable, he has been absolutely pounded the last couple of years without significant injury (as far as we know). What other athlete has been able to maintain that level of injury free performance at that age especially when being pounded every week like he has?

No wonder he believes in his training and dieting program, it is certainly working for him.

I dunno.
From everything we know about Brady, if he has something to say to a teammate, especially one of his receivers, he's going to say it to their face, not in a pod cast from Montana with Peter King.
