Peter King's Top 500

He lost all cred with me by putting Wes Welker ahead of Anquan Boldin....that's just stupid.

I didn't even bother to read the list. Did he really say that? You have got to be kidding me. I love Wes Welker, but I would trade him in a heartbeat for Boldin.

I agree. You gotta think after the first 75-100, King was just throwing players in whatever spot looked good.

Yeah, the list is so hard to do, because he isn't comparing like with like. It feels like quite a messy and somewhat random list.

This list is absolutely terrible, and it gets terrible right away. Aaron Kampman at 16 is just a joke. He's not better than Seymour, Warren, or Wilfork. And Mike Vrabel is all the way down at 273, with players like Jason Campbell in front of him. And Ellis Hobbs down so low is just ridiculous. This list has made me lose whatever respect I had left for Peter King.

Wow, Ol' Pete musta fallen into a vat of gin before throwing this list together.

Now, I'm no huge Matt Light fan, but King last year called him one of the best run-blocking linemen in the league, loudly proclaiming his extremely underrated status, and now he's #249. Mmmmkay.

The year before that, he claimed that Ellis Hobbs the III was the steal of the draft, calling him one of, if not the best cornerback in his draft class, making it a real coup that the Patriots were able to get him in the third round. Now he's #487 with countless rooks in front of him who haven't even set foot on a NFL field for a regular season game yet.?!?!

I can handle my boys being ranked low on a semi-random, nonsensical list... but a little consistency from one of my favorite writers would be kinda nice here.

I love the list for the lone fact that it ranks Julius Peppers above Jason Taylor which I know will piss Aqua off to no end.

Pretty neat project, but the listing of Steven Jackson at No. 30 is ludicrous. He's much better than that. He caught 90 balls last year and rushed for 1,500 yards for Christ's sake. What's not to love?

not sure if anyone read this

Rodney Harrison is on the phone. He is not pleased. "Two hundred thirty-sixth, huh?" he says. "That is ridiculous. There is no way I'm the 236th-best player in football. But this won't be the last mistake you've ever made, I can guarantee you that."

At this point his voice slips into a slow seethe. "But I appreciate your call, I really do," he says. "This is the motivation I need to step up my game a little more and have a great season. So thank you." You're welcome.

Abso freakin lutely I will. Your "loaded" offense will be exposed for nthe fraud it is!

You're right- against Indy's "improved by subtraction" defense, the Pats offense won't look "loaded", it will look "all-world".

This is People Magazine b.s. It's like comparing Grace Slick, Beverly Sill, Dolly Parton, Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson, etc. as top female vocalists. If King rated by position, he'd have a lot more cred.

He probably did. And then did the far more subjective task of intermixing them. This process is little different than the draft where every guru has a published list and each team has its own (unpublished). I'm thankful for an unbiased comparison/ ranking. It'll give me some basis for knowing our opponents which is better than the TV commentator's babble.

I expect I'll put it into excel and sort by team and position, which I agree is more interesting.

Some Pats fans think they win football games simply due to the

genius of Bill Belichick. The fact is that they have a lot of very good

football players on their team. Don't be fooled just because very few

of them are chosen for tbe Pro Bowl.

LOL, by now, it is becoming obvious to most outside Indy that the defense HAS in fact IMPROVED. First, how much WORSE can you be in run D? Second, never heard a Pats fan laud our defense in the past, now that some of those guys are gone, all the sudden they were decent? These guys are bigger, stronger, faster, and hit hard. The only ROOKIE who may start is Ed Johnson at DT, otherwise, we have replaced from within. Sure, they have to go out and prove it, but honestly, if we were going into '07 with the SAME GUYS as last season, THAT would be worrisome.

Look for the Colts defense to be among the league lead in take aways.

I bet I have a hard time finding that.

The Pats' offense will overmatch the Colts' defense far more than the Colts' offense could possibly overmatch our defense this year. Prepare yourself.

Mark it down then, I'll stick around.

Rodney Harrison at 236? 70 spots behind Rex Grossman!
