AFCCG Practice/Info Thread

I think Marty's deal is that he's a bit banged up, but the coaching staff may also be holding back a few new wrinkles for the AFCCG/ SB considering we only have 1 viable TE. But that's just me..

I have a sneaking suspicion that we will eventually find out Bennett (will) require(d) surgeries on whatever is ailing him which has prevented him from playing to the level he is capable of.

The guy is a warrior. I think hes gutting it out big time. I'm not going to criticize his play one bit

Fair enough. Bennett may have lost some of his big play ability due to nagging injuries, but I still hope he can make the occasional play in the redzone and be a reliable blocker. That's fair to expect. Is it not?

this is a little off topic but since it's been brought up...

Was Marty really better early in the season? how can we prove that aside from stats? everyone has a great game every so often, and his best taht i remember is his 2TD performance early in the year

maybe this is his consistent ceiling? i hope not but how do we know that is not the case

if this is what we can expect from him, id rather replace him in draft than resign him honestly

I think we also have to remember that he never really bounced around like other players did. His size has always seems to weigh on him. Like, when he jumps for the endzone w/ the ball...he doesn't exactly spring off the ground. Lineman get up in a similiar way and he is almost the size of an average OLman, around 270 lbs.

The coaching staff, like @Soul_Survivor88 and @robertweathers pointed out, has probably said "Look you're our only hope at TE, Obi Wan, so if you go down hard or something doesn't feel right to you, just stay down and let the trainers come over and make sure you won't make it worse trying to play through it. Can't take that risk". Every little tick and tack is being measured.

From my view his blocking has been above average and occasionally exceptional.

He just doesnt seem to have the burst or grace catching the ball like he used to.

He looks like Daniel Graham out there (which isnt a bad thing)

Watch a few run plays when they show the replays. The guy has been beast. Run blocking, pass protection and receiving. He does it all.

He is, at a minimum, a top ten TE in the league. 3rd in TD receptions. 9th in yards. He's a red zone threat with great hands.

Add his locker room presence along with his can't miss interviews and you've got a player we have been dreaming about to bookend Gronk. You're not going to find a complete package like that in the draft.

Yeah, I rephrased the word "serviceable" and changed it to "reliable" blocker, because he's definately held his own in the blocking game, for sure!

Hogan is a major key imo especially with gronk out. Ill be watching him the closest.

Actually Dion Lewis is the major key he doubles as a All purpose RB a smaller version of Le'Veon Bell.

Has Martellus Bennett hit the wall? We know he's not use to playing this long he moves like he's running in sand. Really thought he would me more of threat in the RZ also making some tough catches over the middle from time to time.

Yep Hes been reliable. I still think hes reliable as a receiver. He had a nice TD vs MIA. Might be a situation where because of his shoulder or how he makes/comes out of his cuts really impedes his ability to catch the ball. Don't know.

I think Bennett is more injured than anyone is letting on. He didn't fall down holding his knee without being touched just because.

My dad used to always talk to me about Jim Brown and how he would make it a point to get up slowly after a hit. He said he knew guys were going out there to hurt him, and he knew he wouldn't always be able to get up so quick. So he got up slow so that the D (and his teammates) wouldn't see they were affecting him.

Brandon Spikes was almost the same....young but got up like he was 70. I think it's a mind thing.
