Chip Kelly to be fired - (MOD UPDATE: He's Been Fired)

This isn't on Chip.

Do you think he can be an nfl coach? I feel like's he more of a college coach. I am not saying it's on him. The 49ers are a mess. It's gonna take awhile for that team

Too many owners who get enamored with the 1-2 year turnaround jobs we've seen in the league but they don't tend to last.

The teams who have sustained the most success over the last 20 years have been teams with consistent coaching and front office. Hiring and firing two coaches in what, 22 months? Ridiculous. No chance to prove anything.

On the other side, how freaking often do you see a coach fail at one job, get fired, take a new job the same offseason and go on to have success? I don't know the stats but it definitely feels like going from a failed HC gig to picking up another gig immediately is a recipe for failure.

Rex did worse in Buffalo than he did in NY. Chip did worse in SF. I wish I could think of some other recent examples but I think the BBesque 3-5 year break between a first and a second HC gig is a key for potential success in a second coaching stint. The coach has time to reflect and learn from their mistakes.

He got a pair of 10-6 seasons out of the Eagles, and has the 3 best Eagles records of the past 6 years, despite his problems with Roseman, and everyone knew SF was going to be a trainwreck no matter who got that coaching job.

Does that mean he can be a truly successful head coach? No, and I don't know whether or not he can. I just think that no coach would deserve to be fired off of just this season in SF.

My worst nightmare

New SF Staff

GM = Casiero

Coach = McDaniels

QB = JimmyG

I mean chances are we're losing 2 of those guys so why not lose them to a division we won't play for 3 years?

Plus it'd be kind of fun to root for them, like I root for the Patriots South (houston) whenever I can.

That's not actually THE nightmare.

I know this won't happen but imagine Casserio / McDaniels and Josh giving Brady the chance to play for his hometown team. Tom wouldn't do it as the 49ers are so bad but that's the real nightmare.

Chip failed in philly because of his player personell decisions. like I said earlier, I didn't see enough of San Fran to make a judgement on his coaching this year, but his coaching didn't get him fired in philly. He was actually a pretty good game day coach.

And just a couple of points. I agree he's a better fit in college. I actually don't like his system

Lol I remember when moss wanted a new deal after 07, And I was pissed at how long it was taking. I convinced myself Brady and Moss were going to take their talents to San Francisco and win all kinds of championships. Well not convinced, but I thought Brady should've atleast considered it. I look back at that and think wow I was an idiot but if Brady and moss had gone there with a decent coach at the time, it would've been a pretty good team

Florio is already throwing out the idea that Josh leaves and Chip is our new offense coordinator. Not to run his system, but ours with some of his own influence. I don't see it.

No way he gets another chance in the pros, but he is certainly a very good college coach, so I doubt he'll be unemployed for terribly long.

I blame the second year of the Jaguars and the Panthers back in 97 or 98, they were a game away from meeting each other in a SB. It fed the fantasy of a number of owners one year of "lighting in a bottle" as opposed to a proper rebuilding period is all it took to build a champion.

Chip Kelly as OC would be interesting.
Hate to lose Josh to a crap hole like San Fran.
Caserio I really wouldnt want to lose but it makes sense for them.
However I see Caserio staying.
I maybe the minority but im leaning torwards Patricia being more important than Josh.
Our defense has looked very stout little to no weakness and playing alot of young guys and new vets to our system.
Let Patrica stay if Mcdaniels leaves I think hes doing it off our teams coatails.
Patricia I think on the other hand does things and makes adjustments BB even respects.
Dont get me wrong I love Josh and my preference is he stays.
Chip Kelly who is a New England guy and a coach who has innovated the game as well as a top college coach would not be a bad concelation prize.
If not him then hope Daboll is ready Ive always liked him because he runs very creative plays he doesnt play scared.
BB took him back like no problem when things didnt work with him with Mangini.

Not so long ago, 49er fans thought Kaepernick was the second coming of Peyton Manning. "So fast, so accurate, has strong arms, just not fair" I remembered reading this comment when they went to the SB.

This only franchise that crashed faster is the Panthers.

The only way josh should go to San Fran is if he can have control of personnel.

I am not sure about OC because I think Daboll has dibs on that but some form of consultant would be pretty interesting. You gotta keep evolving in the NFL and I am sure Chip could add some interesting wrinkles into our offense and also ST.

Nick Foles put up an historic season under Kelly, and that offense when it had talent was causing legit problems for NFL defenses. He shouldn't be allowed personnel choices, clearly, but he has shown he can coach offenses in the league. Harbaugh made everyone hate him, a slew of players retired, and then Baalke made a bunch of bad moves. I don't think Kelly is at fault.

Chip can be O.C when Josh leaves. ( I believe it's McDaniels time to shine).
