I heard the first 5 minutes... Joe and Evan asked him about his legacy, when he thought he would retire, and hypotheticals on firing coaches. His answers were...

...what you might expect.

Those guys are down to earth, fun, knowledgeable and true fans of their teams. I can listen to Joe and Evan FAR longer than I can tolerate the 98.5 and WEEI hot-take-tards.

I just don't know why these guys still ask him these questions...I mean how many times does he have to answer the same way until they get it.

I Hear Ya with WEEI and I can't stand WFAN especially Giant's Jock Holding Mike Francessa but I can listen to Joe's show anytime.

I give the out of market guys a break on that. Especially a market that had six years of Rex Ryan. LOL
Yeah, but still, I was hoping they were better prepared and was hoping perhaps BB would be a little more talkative to the out of market media. The questions they asked e.g. about his legacy were guaranteed not to get an answer other than "We're On To Miami". They would know this if they talked to anyone at all who has covered the Pats. For instance, listen to Tom E. Curran's podcast, he talks so much about how you have to ask the right kind of question if you want to get anything at all useful from him. At the end they got him talking about being able to review penalty calls and that was the only good part of the segment. I think they could have asked him more questions about what things he saw the last time he played the Jets (i.e. what if anything Bowles does well) and what challenges Miami presents, and those things would be of interest to a NY audience.

BB and Benigno go back decades.

Yup, when BB was with Jets, BB said he would go into his office at like 3-4 am to get an early start on things and at that time Joe B. was doing his overnight show on FAN and BB would tune in and always liked listening to him. They stayed in touch since then. Joe is cool, fair guy and if he goofs on BB its in good fun and ribbing and always gives him high praise.

Yep. As soon as they started asking that question, anyone who has ever heard a BB press conference knew that his answer was basically going to be "Miami"

I got a chuckle at the very end when Evan mentioned Bill as a HOFer and Benigno laughed and said, yeah, slightly HOF.

Thanx for posting I missed it. I met Joe & Evan a few times and Joe is real cool, stand up guy calls it like it is. He always messes with me when I see their show radio show live I'm wearing my Pats Gear and once Joe & Evan did a little bit about me as a Pat's Fan living in NY.

Hey this is OT and random but I am in NYC this weekend. Can you recommend a bar to watch the Pats game on the Upper East Side? Gonna try to catch the first hour or so and then have something else to do in that area.

Great interview. They asked, Belichick stonewalled.
Poor interview. Joe and Evan should have known asking that kind of question would result in them being stonewalled. Besides, what kind of answer did they expect? Did they expect BB (or any current NFL coach) to say "yeah, I think about my legacy all the time and am planning out how I'm going to spend my retirement years polishing all my trophies?".

I really do like Joe and Evan, but I think they did not prepare well for this interview.

I more or less like them too, but there was an exchange between a caller and Evan last week that spoke volumes.

A Patriots fan called in and they got into spy and deflate-gate stuff, and it was clear that Evan really had no idea what spygate was about--he seemed to think it referred to filming the Rams' walkthrough, which the caller (thank god it was someone who had a clue, nothing worse than a "Patriots fan" who doesn't know anything, makes my blood boil) explained was false, the story was retracted, and that spygate was simply based on the fact that the Pats had a camera in an unauthorized location. So then Evan--a prominent sports talk radio host for the largest sports market in the country, who I actually sort of like--said, "you know what? We're going to look into this...over the commercial break, I'm going to research this."

Then when he came back after reading the wikipedia entry or something he said something like, yeah, our caller was right, interesting...looks like Goodell destroyed tapes which people weren't happy about, but the walkthrough story was retracted, who really knows what happened, blah blah blah...and then they went off onto other things.

If this is the level of understanding of a guy in his position, what do we think average fans will think? Nobody cares enough to research things, particularly not to research things that might contradict incorrect information that they're all too happy believing.

Cool, thanks for the bar suggestions everyone! We're always in NYC this time of year so it's an annual tradition to watch the week 17 game somewhere.
