Pats claim WR Michael Floyd

I stopped caring about the condition of players' souls a decade ago. **** off with this role model and moralizing stuff.

The 'reward' stuff is ridiculous. The Patriots aren't a charitable organization or the judicial branch of the government. They aren't rewarding a player they sign any more than they are punishing a player like Tebow when they cut him.

Again, I assume that they thought he'd clear waivers, or maybe they didn't have $1.4MM to sign him.

Most people thought he'd clear waivers (including me), but most of those same people thought there would be a lot of interest in him AFTER he got through them. And he did clear 31 teams.
Interesting times, indeed. Mr. Floyd, take advantage of your incredible opportunity in front of you now!!
Right on, man!

That was part of my reasoning, as well. I also think our game Sunday will be attacking some other areas like TEN and ATL did to them, which would lessen the need for a 4th active WR.
Well I was broken record last year pleading for them to commit to the run game, and it really came to a head with Brady getting thrashed in the debacle in Denver. I understand the argument that they couldn't run so they were trying to get yards instead, which meant passing. But that thinking lost and nearly got Brady killed. But now we have a revamped and hugely improved offensive line, Blount setting personal and team records, White showing remarkable improvement, and Lewis rounding into shape. Denver's defense is #1 against the pass and #29 against the run, and now their two best LBs appear to be out. So this is my revenge game where we pound them into dust.

Get arrested for DUI, go to the playoffs in January. Stay sober, stay home,

They didn't have a fourth WR last week except for Slater. Why would that change this week?

Because of the near disaster in the 1st half of the game, when Chris Hogan jammed his hand and ran to the sideline and the "efficient machine" Patriots offense had to waste a timeout because it froze up, crapped its pants and looked like a Chuck E. Cheese animatronics failure.

Thank goodness Hogan came back in a few plays later, otherwise that was a team playing with 2 WRs and 1 real TE.

You ask "why would that change this week?" - - Because of the realization that they dodged a bullet and may not be so incredibly lucky next time by skating on such thin ice.

The one time BB actually answered a question in today presser was when he definitively stated "Hey, we are thin at WR".

I'm not saying Floyd is definitely playing this week - hell, he only started practicing today, he would only be a decoy body. But a decoy body is still someone who has to be covered. If they don't cover him, the guy will catch a non-contested pass anytme.

You think Bill Belichick is going to have a player who was here for one practice as an active WR against the league's number #1 passing defense, during what likely will be a gameplan designed for running/taking advantage of RB vs LB?

That would be awfully surprising, wouldn't it?

Would it surprise you if Bill surprised us?

This week Slater will be better prepared.

On top of that their best punt returner is Edelman and they may need to go to him. This move gives them some flexibility to use Edelman and if he does get hurt Hogan and Mitchell can move to the slot and Floyd is the outside receiver. At least they are using some of the money they saved by not extending players like Hightower and Butler this year instead of letting that money sit there.

Not every locality has Uber or Lyft service.

Furthermore, many states prohibit Uber/Lyft from picking up from the airport outright or force them to charge the same livery fees as Taxis/Limos..

Interesting that the deal has gone down 26 pages ago, and STILL no direct comments from the man himself. That alone makes me feel he'll fit right in here.

Regardless its a reasonable question. O'Shea will get him on a path to learning the playbook, he'll work with Tom and JMD on the timing and line calls, sight adjustments, routes he likes, etc and based on their assessment of where he is they'll either activate him and put him in a few packages or keep him out. If they think Charlie can help with some ND to NEP translations that help accelerate the learning curve they'll ask Charlie if he has a few minutes to help the kid in which he will most likely say yes.

I have no doubt in my mind that Belichick, McDaniels, O'Shea and Brady were on the phone to Floyd yesterday (12/15/16) at 4:01 PM EST. I wouldn't be surprised if they sent Floyd the play-book and told him to learn certain plays they'd decided upon for the Denver Game. I also wouldn't be surprised if it was O'Shea or Brady who picked up Floyd at the airport to see if he'd learned the plays and to ensure things were going smoothly (and keep him out of trouble).

It would be but BB rarely has a guy travel and not play. Maybe they have 3 or 4 particular plays in mind with him they want to try? Also he is a good blocker for a WR.

And since one of Floyd's best aspects is his ability to block, the Pats may dress him. Something I hadn't thought about earlier in the thread and thing is very relevant now..

Very good boint. I bet he could play Special Teams. Blocking a gunner? I think this is truly the X Factor.

I would not put it past them on anything you say except TB12 picking him up at the airport.

With the exception of a handful of snaps over the last 5 years, he has not played ST. That does not mean he cant

I'm going to save this conversation. When it happens, I'll have a new signature saying "AS SMART AS BB"

Fine w/ me!

He has the attributes. Big guy, physical and fast. Not sure where they'd play him though as its a tough unit to crack.

"When it happens, I'll start send resumes"
