Pats claim WR Michael Floyd

Lot of people sure are eager to prove why "DUIs aren't that bad." I agree that there's a lot of legal driving distractions that cause just as much if not more accidents, but that doesn't make alcohol any less hazardous......I think some people just want to feel better about their past.

Sign the beast
Brady to Floyd

Seems he will actually play this week (heard he will be traveling with the team). I wonder about what they are planning. He can only run simple routes and probably not make adjustments.

Not a good match up for him either vs these CBs.

Many on the Cards Forum think "the wily old fox in NE" has made another brilliant move. Also, their discussion is at ~ 320 posts and ours is ~480. Pretty hot topic! Fun times!

I bet fitz wishes he was in floyd's shoes. Larry would have been great here. Good guy in the locker room. Very professional.

He did good last year against the seahawks and sherman.

Yea this pretty much sums it up.

I've been thinking about this but more specifically in the AFC.

If I'm a team like KC, Pitt, BAL, MIA, TN, HOU or even Indy and I'm in the same conference as NE, I KNOW for a fact I will need to score 28 or more points to win a playoff game vs them. Why would I not roll the dice and sign this guy? If you look at all of those teams at WR2 and WR3, Floyd is an upgrade. He may not be a big upgrade for some of them but an upgrade nonetheless

Are they more concerned about the $1.3m than beating NE in the playoffs?

Do they think their system is too complicated?

Do they think he'll be destructive?

IMO these teams are being too conservative and its gonna bite them in the ass.
"This is Houston, we have a Roger Goodell sighting..."

Before I liked the move.

Now I'm excited about it.

If he and TB12 can do a quick Vulcan mind meld session and get some trust going this move willbe considered a masterstroke
Yup, and have Gisele fix up the guest bedroom...you know, roommates bond like that

People screaming about this as a reward need to remember the courts deal with punishments(as will the league) and from a team prospective he's been let go and will go from a number 2 to basically a depth position with limited participation. I don't know what more people want, maybe to have him out on the street never working again, unreal.

I was thinking about it. At this point it would make since to have Floyd solely work on red zone plays. That is all he learns or practices. That is a much smaller play pool and where they could use him the most.

Thanks for the catch on that.

Great stuff from Mike! I hadn't thought about the angle that he played for Charlie Weiss at ND - - there's the voice that may have been whispering in BB's ear......

Yup, more on that very interesting point!

Charlie Weis: Michael Floyd already knows '75 percent' of New England Patriots' offense

"....."How many places can you go to where you're going to know 75 percent of the verbiage walking through the door?" Weis said. "The verbiage is the same verbiage, with Josh (McDaniels') tweaks and what's matriculated over the past decade, the verbiage is still the same...There's just a 25 percent spinoff in every system. You've got a guy who comes in here who doesn't have to learn the system all over again. Mentally, you've got a big advantage over other guys because you already know what to do."

Weis added: "Learning a pro system takes some work. You come in in a short time frame, come into one system that has one set of verbiage vs. another. Where he's coming from, he played under me, he knows all those words...."

This is absolutely a good move for the team. If he doesn't work out, they cut him, plain and simple.
Get him to learn a few plays/formations just to get him involved. Throw him a pass early, just to make the Denver D consider him a threat. A decoy if anything. Heck they could just tell what routes to run in the huddle.

You think Bill Belichick is going to have a player who was here for one practice as an active WR against the league's number #1 passing defense, during what likely will be a gameplan designed for running/taking advantage of RB vs LB?

That would be awfully surprising, wouldn't it?

It would be but BB rarely has a guy travel and not play. Maybe they have 3 or 4 particular plays in mind with him they want to try? Also he is a good blocker for a WR.

Interesting times, indeed. Mr. Floyd, take advantage of your incredible opportunity in front of you now!!

Not if they were at normal strength for WR. But they only have 3 other WR's available for the game and only 1 TE who has ever caught an NFL pass.

Not saying he will definitely be active, but I can see a case for it. In this particular situation, they need the body.

They didn't have a fourth WR last week except for Slater. Why would that change this week?

That was part of my reasoning, as well. I also think our game Sunday will be attacking some other areas like TEN and ATL did to them, which would lessen the need for a 4th active WR.
