Kind of embarrassing. All 31 teams passed on this guy. but not Pats

"Embarrassing"???????

Is anyone else uncontrollably giggling that a St Louis Rams fan, of all people, is coming in here to lob that one???

Stan Kroenke, Kevin Demoff and Jeff Fisher say hello, kiddo.

just because 30 teams passed on waivers, doesn't mean they didn't want him. They wanted him, but not at $1.4m and thought they could wait until he cleared waivers.

Ring Ring....

Goodell: Hey Bill, I was wrong about deflategate
Belichick: What are you gonna do about it?
Goodell: What do you need?
Belichick: Michael Floyd
Goodell: Ok, I'll tell the other 31 teams I'm gonna suspend him

I am still shock that other teams didn't put a claim. Team's like the giants or even the steelers. Giants offense has been struggling

I had no idea. Collinsworth had me convinced that the Giants could score with just OBJ on the field.

Ouch...

If nothing else, the Pat's would be in line for comp picks when he signs elsewhere in the off season

Well it's a low risk pickup on a talented WR who was drafted #13th in the 1st round a while back and also put up 1,000 yards receiving a while back.

It's totally a reclamation project but really if he turns it around, it's another BB saves a career type of story.
Now it's all up to Floyd to wake up and take advantage of this opportunity.
He just went from a team on the verge of missing the playoffs to a team that is contending for the title and is currently the #1 seed in the AFC.

Great stuff from Mike Reiss spelling out the Floyd claim and what went into the Patriots mind-set

I actually think he could play a David Givens role if they can get him right for the stretch. He's not a burner but he's physical, I just don't know if that translates to blocking.

Agreed. He has WR1 "stuff" too (athleticism, separation from man coverage, etc)

This move's upside could be reminiscent of Talib. A talented trouble player who was up and down at his first stop, signs a 1 year prove it deal, and gets paid big time entering age 29 in 2018.

Homer crystal ball:

- Plays a pivotal role as a rotational WR in the playoffs
- Signs a 1 year deal. Ends up as a starting WR for us by next season.
- Signs a mega deal somewhere else in 2018. We receive a 3rd round 2019 pick for his services.

Thanks for the catch on that.

Great stuff from Mike! I hadn't thought about the angle that he played for Charlie Weiss at ND - - there's the voice that may have been whispering in BB's ear.

The other point Mike made was that almost apocryphal moment early in the game on Monday night when Hogan jammed his hand......and the entire Patriots offense looked like a Chuck E. Cheese animatronic failure.

Brady, after some frustrated hemmering had to call a panic time out - - they just couldn't get the right personnel in since they only dreessed 3 WRs. I don't know if anyone has the video of it, but it was almost frightening how they all simply froze in confusion for a moment.

His numbers definately took a slide in 2016, but then again, Carson Palmer isnt doing all that well either. Might partly explain why

After a quick look at all of his targets: My Novice analysis.

1. A lot of the deep throws to him were under or over thrown. He usually gets some separation but not always and not a lot if he does. So in man to man he has to improve in his jump ball ability which he was great with last year. In zone he finds the open part of the field.

2. On shorter out routes he does create separation but more often than not Palmer throws the ball late allowing the DB to contest the catch. That happened a lot. Brady throws before the break while Palmer often throws after which may be a trust issue between Palmer and Floyd.

3. He has dropped some balls that hit him right on target. A couple of big play drops including as a pass that would have given the Cardinals a first down and closer to the Field goal during their 3 to 3 tie. Confidence issue?

4. He has made some nice tough catches as well. He will go after balls that are thrown too low or high. Palmer will throw to him in double and occasionally triple coverage.

5. He bobbled a few sideline catches. Two or three.

6. He has dropped a few when immediately getting hit after the catch. A few I thought he should have hung onto but that might be being picky.

With that said a majority of Palmers throws were off target or late so it's tough to digest Floyd's completion percentage. I would estimate that he would be closer to 60-65 percent if Palmer was a bit more accurate. Another consideration is that a lot of his targets were deep passes and I imagine that reduces catch percentage as well. Unless, of course, he was running his routes, both short and deep, poorly which I'm not able to tell.

The good news? In Arizona he often received #1 CB attention which I doubt he'll receive here. So he may get a little more separation and be able to win a few more contested balls. Additionally he'll have Brady throwing to him which will give him a better ball to catch. (A lot of Palmers deep throws had less arc on them than Brady's do.)

So I like the guy or I like giving the guy a shot. If he can regain his confidence from last year he will be a valuable weapon especially in the red zone. However I would not rate him above Mitchell or Hogan as a between the 20's receiving threat but would consider him a possible equal or better red zone threat.

Side note: I think four of his first incomplete targets were against Butler. Butler actually performed one of his classic strip in the end zone moves on him.

Side note 2: If Floyd ran the correct routes Palmer sucks.

Anyways any feedback is appreciated.

Didn't sheldon richardson play on when he was caught in a car incident?

Yes, if you call driving 140 mph, drunk, high, with a gun and drugs in the car.. oh and a 13 year old or something in the back seat.. an "incident"

I'll be the first to admit, I don't quite understand how comp picks work but if Michael Floyd leaves, wouldn't we get the comp pick now? So worst case scenario, we are trading a million bucks for a (3rd round?) comp pick? He was the thirteenth pick in the 2012 draft...

I think it's written into the rule that you don't get a comp pick for guys that you acquire midseason. Not sure about that, though.

you think its about Talent?

The kid has a problem. This is his 2nd DUI. Should not be rewarded like this. Should be given treatment.

Wait.... A Rams fan has the temerity to talk about the need for other people to get treatment?

Its more likely that
Goodell will hit the pats with a fine of a first rnd pick for cheating by claiming Floyd
