I was disappointed and skeptical about this trade. Chandler is a really solid DE just hitting his prime years. Good against the run and pass. Very likeable player too. He was a draft binky of mine and when we got him on draft day I was immediately a fan. I thought he'd be a staple on our defense for many years to come.

Long story short, we wouldn't have been able to afford him at the end of this season so we traded him for picks. We got Joe Thuney, Jonathan Cooper, and Malcolm Mitchell in return. Cooper is a total bust but Mitchell and Thuney have both turned out better than expected.

We got Chris Long on the cheap and Trey Flowers is turning into a stud so the loss of Chandler hasn't been a big deal.

And as usual Chandler Jones has gone missing after Thanksgiving.

Business as usual.. hot start, followed by inconsistency and finally silence..

Great trade. I said it at the time and its obviously true. Not beating my chest. There were others here who said the same. Also plenty who whined about it.But it was just common sense. They're only rookies but contributing bigtime. Lotta potential for both. But the biggest payoff might be signing butler and hightower

Last night's game should silence the doubters till.......the next game at least. Long is as spectacular as ninkovich, which is not really on the athletic front but he is very disciplined and smart. How many times did he drop back last night and kept the edge? A lot.

For those of you who think our pass rush suck, you're not seeing that we rarely rush more than 4. The perception of the blitz is more powerful than actually blitzing.

He got a White House pardons along with the other turkeys.

Seriously, you're right. Pretty quiet in the Miami game. Must be smokin' weed with Suggs.

Still would like a consistent pass rush. Hope flowers can be consistent. You can never have enough pass rushers. We don't have a great pass rusher. I hope flowers can be that.

I suspect BB doesn't enjoy trading productive players - for many reasons - so when he does trade someone away, he likely sees a very big return, not a splitting hairs type of deal.

IMO, Arizona pulled a bad move, one that I think almost NFL teams teams should avoid, which is paying for a guys services when he's in his contract year (unless it's a superstar). Good chance they are either have to overpay to keep him or they will lose a second round pick for 16 games of service. The Cardinals aren't as good as they thought they were and should have realized they were on the wrong side of the deal when Belichick came knocking.

I do agree, love the outcome. To be a jerk, though, I will point out that if we only had our own #2 we may have traded that down instead of using it so you could argue that we got Cyrus Jones for Chandler Jones.

Only getting a 3rd round compensatory from the Browns for Collins is the real head-scratcher?!?

Not really, Chandler was traded for the whole season (and offseason to prepare), Collins was traded for half a season and just thrown into the mix, no offseason to learn the defense. The issue with that for me wasn't what he was worth but whether we would be better off keeping him for the season given that was his worth.

Thuney. Every single snap. If I was B Spikes, I'd say #powwwwwwwwwwwww.

Chandler Jones (who they wouldn't have been able to afford, most likely) for a franchise OG and a star-in-the-making WR? Huge win, even though they gave up real talent.

I agree, and you need to give up something to get something in return.. It worked out for everyone involved if they didn't see Chandler as a part of the future and one of the handful of players they wanted to give lucrative, long term deals to.

It sure would be nice to have him this year for this run, but the team will be better off for it over the next 5 years and you could argue they may be better this year because Thuney has been great at LG as a rookie and Mitchell is developing more trust and earning a bigger role in the offense his rookie year.. and has all the tools to be that big, deep threat we've needed

I liked Jones and if there wasn't a salary cap, I'm sure he would still be with the team.. but he isn't elite enough to demand a mega contract like some of these other DEs in the league..

I think Jones will settle in somewhere as a situational pass rusher ...
He just doesn't have the stamina to be an every down player for the season.
Not that there's anything wrong with that if the salary is adjusted.
