Lombardi believes Pats will trade Garoppolo to the Browns

If Mallett was worth the #6 overall, JG must be worth quite a haul!

Seriously makes no sense to keep him if Brady is playing 2 or 3 more years. Are they going to sign him to a big contract after his rookie contract is up? He's in a weird position, if he gets traded without a new contract and fails, he'll never get big money. If he stays here he could sign an extension for small money and spend the better part of his career never playing. Less reward but less risk for him.

So maybe they do keep him. I think they should go all in for brady's last few years. Lots of holes on this team.

Pure speculation but if Jimmy G is the next Tom Brady and Myles Garrett is the next Von Miller and Brady can play another 2-3 seasons then offering the #1 overall for JGmakes sense for both parties, doesn't it?

I hope the Pats find a way to keep Garoppolo. But if he has to go somewhere, I'd like to see him land with the Bears.

Oh, I absolutely believe that. When it comes to stupidity, many NFL teams and their owners possess amounts of it which are incalculable.

the browns are run by a former BB protege now...

For the last few years, the Pats had to go into the draft trying to figure out if they could find someone who could make their stacked roster (which is why they kept going so heavy on OL).

Next year is very different. The Pats have lots of potential upgrades looking them in the eye. Even if they sign Dont'a Hightower, is Hightower, Van Noy, McClellin, Freeny, Mingo and Roberts good enough at LB?

Do they extend Butler, keep Ryan and Harmon, sign Rowe?

Resign Blount (please)? Is their OL stout enough with the current group? Sign Bennett?

Adjust or cut Amendola (seems a certainty)?

This could be the most interesting off-season around here in a long time.

If it's for the browns' first rounder, I hope the pats use it to take an impact defensive player.

I'd be happy with a Top 5 draft pick...whoever is willing to give up the most.

I also never wanted to give Jimmy away...but Brady isn't going anywhere soon (I think). It's almost impossible to keep both of them after 2017

There is a lot of talent on the browns, and with JG as a qb he knows, the transition would be smoother
Also, if you can make Cleveland good, that is a great franchise with history and has been around for ever and is a traditional team and would have crazy support. I would much rather build up the Browns then say the Jaguars or something.

I want jymmy to stay but a 1st is hard to pass up..
sigh.. it's been gone over and over on this board that the timing is bad for Jimmy and the Pats. I totally understand how you feel but none of us nor the Pats are going to move on from Brady. And of course Jimmy is going to leave to play somewhere after next year.

The only thing that makes me hesitate trading him, is "what if" Brady gets hurt NEXT season. WOuld it be worth passing on an additional draft pic, to have him here just in case, and even possibly the long term if Brady was injured bad enough that he would secede him at that point. In hind site, the draft pic would not be as valuable as Jimmy would have been if the unthinkable happens NEXT year. (Obviously if it happened this season everything changes right away.)

How about Jacksonville?
Lure Tom Coughlin out of retirement. Offer their 1st round pick (top 5 in all likelihood) for Jimmy G.

Seriously, what have they got to lose? At worst, they can tell their fan base, "we have a SB winning coach and a Tom Brady protege at QB, we're going places!"

I'm actually convinced Jimmy would be better off playing for a different franchise. New England is a very tough market to play in...the media is relentless, and the team is usually no-nonsense.

Not everyone is built for this city

That doesn't provide immunity from the stupidity virus which, by all accounts, envelopes the entire Browns franchise like fog envelopes London.

Actually, that franchise left for Baltimore and became the ratbirds. But I agree on the Jags comparison.
