Jets Suck -- 2016 Edition (Official): Futility Confirmed

What's funny is that even as bad as last night's game was, you all know the remaining Jets vs Pats game this season will be a close game.
Not if Petty is the quarterback. If there's a blizzard, perhaps.

That's how Jest fans measure what this season (and every season) means to them. If they keep the games between them and the Pats "close". Not winning the game, but keeping it close. Oh man, your misery feeds my soul. It's like water in the Sahara Desert.

I hate when the Jets get knocked out of the playoffs. It's like the day after Christmas let down. Now I have to go like 11 months before I get to experience the joy of it again. Depressed.

Probably. But that is part of why it is fun to hate the Jets. Nobody here really hates the Bills because well...I mean look at their record vs. Brady.

Where'd you hear that? Just curious.

That's been a somewhat common belief I've seen around here. That the Jets (or other teams) and their fans consider NE games to be of more importance.

It's not true in the slightest from what I've seen. Is that what Boston media says?

I mean, don't get me wrong; during a decent season, a December game vs a division opponent is a great game. Add in all the "gates" and history between the teams and it's even more fun. But realistically, it's just another game.

The Jets fans that I talk to where I live in Queens hate the Pats but respect them, so whenever they play each other, they mention the margin of victory (or loss) after the fact. Perhaps these are not all of them, and they are not a full representation of course, but I've had years of experience with a lot of them. If they lose a game by even 1, they feel as though "we can compete against the Pats". They even go as far as to say what happens in one season will dictate the game the following season.

Even on some Jet related forums they use the score margin as a sign of "moral victory".

We also know that we'll be in the playoffs (and likely in the AFCCG) again, meanwhile the Jets' season will end after week 17... again.

Gotcha. And yeah, that could be true for some. Hell, I definitely like the fact that the Jets play NE tough most of the time. Regardless of what else is going on. Of course it'd be better if they got some more wins vs 'em, but it is cool knowing odds are a Jets/Pats game is gonna be a battle.

Man if I were you, I'd be knocking on some wood. (Plus I'd burn all of my Pats gear.)

Forget Forte, they should pick these guys up.

Both guys have better closing speed than Revis and are willing to tackle unlike Revis. And I bet the Jets could get them for the veteran minimum.

Ive said before that one my closest friends since college (20+ years ago) is die-hard Jets fan. Hes an atypical Jets fan. Hes intelligent, level-headed and has perspective. He and I talk on a regular basis. He is in a dark place these days. Hes coming over my house and watching the game together on X-Mas eve.

He certainly has problems with Bowles, Pick-6-Fitz and Maccagnan but firmly believes Woody lack of discipline to the economics of the game is the main reason they suck. There is zero player accountability. He is calling for Woody Johnson to sell the team. He thinks the failure of the team is all on him.

I agree with him. It all starts at the top.

Yeah, it always should happen closer to Christmas. Good for the holiday spirit.

In the almost two decades Woody has been here the team has won more than most other teams. And that's with being in the same division as one of the best dynasties the NFL has ever seen.

Woody has done just fine.

Give the Jets a QB, or just allow the inevitable fall of the Empire (Pats) to occur and the Jets will have even better results.

Woody is terrible, dude.

He signs of on hiring bad coaches, bad GMs and overpays the players he shouldnt be overpaying. Hes caught up in making a splash and not building a 1-53 roster.

Bringing in a moron like Charley Casserly to be his chief adviser in hiring a GM and coach is embarrassing.

I'm a results/numbers guy. The fact remains his team has performed better than average. Again in the same division as Belichick/Brady.

Plus he demolished Midget stadium. AND he has one of the coolest names ever.

Woody is cool in my book.

His political leanings leave much to be desired. But that's another discussion.

So there's the Pats fan part of me, who roots for what helps my team. And then there's NFL fan part of me which wants to see a quality product on and off the field regardless of jersey.

The NFL fan in me is still bitter that Idzik cleared up your cap hell and then was sent packing. Yeah his 2 drafts were pretty bad. But next year you guys are, again, heading for a cap crunch only 2 years after he came in and got you on the right path.

To me not giving Idzik more of a chance is a sign of bad ownership. You aren't going to build a winning program if you go into this '2 years and out' thing that seems to be happening. I mean, it took Belichick 4 years to build a team that didn't need the Tuck Rule. Ok I'm being glib, the Tuck Rule only allowed the Pats to get into a position to tie, yadda yadda, and the 2001 team had a great defense, but the point is that the season should have been over for them and 2002 was a big letdown.

Owners who don't have the right patience are a bit of a pet peeve of mine. Woody seems uniquely ill-suited to the pressure of the NY Media microscope which is the most intense in the nation. I'm pretty sure he forced Ryan on Idzik and then canned both when his blind-date front office philosophy didn't pan out.

Idzik needed a chance to build on the cap space he had made and nobody is perfect at drafting, the Patriots have had some pretty mediocre ones as well.

Of course you would think so, having no comprehension of what characterizes competent ownership. Woody is an idiot.

Give the Jets a QB, or just allow the inevitable fall of the Empire (Pats) to occur and the Jets will have even better results.
