Report: surgery for Gronk

Meh that's completely overrated and a media narrative to make Brady look like Gronk's been propping him up.

Those numbers without Gronk is based majorly on 2013, when he was throwing to Dobson, Thompkins, and Hoomanuwaui.

Yea. With AH and no Gronk they were good. With Marty and no Gronk is what will be interesting.

As long as give TB12 a clean pocket I think they'll be ok.

Saw this elsewhere. No idea how accurate (or not):
"Disc failure is a chronic phenomenon and is usually based on the luck of your genetic draw. Surgery really only works for acute disc failure (infected discs, or discs that ruptured along with a major bony fracture), because the discs are just going to keep failing."
As someone who just recently entered their 40s and is coming off of a diskectomy back surgery in August, this does not make me feel too positive.

They definitely are as well-positioned to withstand this as they've ever been, assuming health (huge assumption). Quick triggers with Edelman and Lewis, deeper threats in Hogan and Mitchell, a healthy Bennett & improved Blount...throw DA and White in there...they can do it. Can't say definitively losing Gronk WON'T cost them a SB, but hopefully it won't.

I wouldn't rely on my own viewing/recollections on the blocking ability of a back-up tight end. But the reports from the games he was playing in the preseason (particularly against the Saints) were very positive. Add to that the fact that he's got good size, agility, and speed--and has started well for the Broncos--it just seems weird to be saying flatly, "his blocking sucks. That't it."

Feels like a reflexive "Belichick traded him, so it was the right decision to trade him" line to me, saying it so categorically.

Honestly, that's not reflexive at all.

I have been saying since the start of the regular season that I don't see Derby as a capable blocker against NFL level opponents (compared to Gronk/Marty). He was a good route runner, had soft (but small) hands and good blocking technique but he just lacked raw power and got easily overwhelmed. His short hands didn't help him either.

That being said I am sitting on a couch at home so maybe I am wrong.

8 weeks essentially means season ending..

Vs Seahawks?? Is this joke. They let him play. Morons.

And for all the comments about moving on from Gronk. Are you serious? I cant belive how quickly some player can go from hero to zero with some fans.

Thomas Gill isnt walking though that door.

I'm in my mind-40s and 3 months ago I partially tore my labrum and rotator cuff laying down dirt with my wheelbarrow. So dumb.

I'll feel normal in 2018.

Have fun with that. I'm 30 and had surgery last Wednesday to get them repaired. That surgery, recovery, and the PT thus far all absolutely blow. I just typed this reply with one friggin hand.

Don't do it. Don't give into the temptation of replying to Deus... nooooo !

Deus and I are good. Never had a problem 10 years on this board.

So you agree with me they won't get HFA throughout? Looking like Oakland, KC, Denver will take that number one seed.

Denver isn't getting HFA so go ahead and scratch them off the list! If we don't get the number 1 seed Oakland or KC will get it! I still think we somehow some way end up being the 1 seed in the end though

How is Martysaurus' ankle? Wish they wouldn't have traded AJ Derby.

Oh well 20/20 hindsight. Next man up, and let's pray Gronk has superhuman healing abilities

Panic away, my friend, because this will be his third diskectomy. Normally, they start talking about fusion surgeries after the second one.

I'm assuming that they'll do that as soon as he's done playing. He will certainly have limitations and pain throughout the rest of his life, and there's a reasonable chance it could cut his career short.

You got some inside source on what this back surgery exactly is about ? Because given what Curran has said on Twitter I don't think it sounds like "major" back surgery:

Especially if he had the option to just rest it out.

thanks Earl...
