Report: surgery for Gronk

This is the first year in a long time i didn't panic, after hearing that Gronk is hurt.

That being said, it is not good when I hear this kind of thing every year.

Hurt, but not destroyed.

I don't know where this worthless report came from, but the risk of re-herniation is significant until the 12 week mark, where it then drops by a good margin.

If they would risk a 4th (and potentially career ending) surgery over one game, which is a ridiculous assumption about going to the SB in the first place, they are total morons.

I just read the article that Mack had posted about the OL who said practicing after "only 4 months" was "asinine." And that was his first one. How long did they wait with him last time? At least several months. I think it's highly unlikely that we see Gronk again this year.

Oh, good, he was cleared by the Patriots medical staff, that's everything. They have a tremendous record!

Once again, an injury to one part of the body can create overcompensation issues for an athlete. Happens alot with pitchers injuring their throwing out their arms after having leg injuries. Happens all the time.

If you think he was just cleared by the Pats medical staff then you haven't been paying attention since 2013. Gronk ain't getting cleared until Team Gronk says so.

The problem is not the offense as much as it's the defense. If we don't make a deep playoff run, it's because of the D.

No question the D needs to play well.

I'm just talking about the offense having enough talent to score 24-30 a game.

If they have a 2014 AFCD game like BAL and the give up 31 and getting run up/down the field that makes it much harder.

People, enough withe the "next man up" bullschitt - this isn't high school. you can't remove a guy who gets double, triple teamed alot off a team and expect some schittbum from the PS to catch 4 balls a game and be a big target on third down....the team is ****ed, guys, face it....

If the success or failure of the NEP hinges on one player this season, then Belechick did a bad job. Think I'll wait and see what effect Gronk being absent has on the offense both statistically and mentally.

Thomas Gill isnt walking though that door.

I don't believe Gronk is the difference between winning a SB and not.

What chances would you give us to win a SB without T.B and J.G instead? I agree Gronk isn't difference necessarily. If we play Seattle in SB..different story..

So you agree with me they won't get HFA throughout? Looking like Oakland, KC, Denver will take that number one seed.

Don't crown the AFC West as number one seed quite yet. They all still play each other and San Diego might do the Pats a favour by beating these divisional rivals too. We are in pole position.

We need these wrs to perform. Need to get open. Hogan and mitchell are two guys that can get downfield. Tommy cannot just lock on edelman.

We must have watched different games..
I wouldn't rely on my own viewing/recollections on the blocking ability of a back-up tight end. But the reports from the games he was playing in the preseason (particularly against the Saints) were very positive. Add to that the fact that he's got good size, agility, and speed--and has started well for the Broncos--it just seems weird to be saying flatly, "his blocking sucks. That's it."

Feels like a reflexive "Belichick traded him, so it was the right decision to trade him" line to me, saying it so categorically.

Specifically what pole position, though? Reverse Cowgirl? Doggy is my personal favorite.

No clue what the chances are. No question they are better with Gronk.

Brady's numbers with/without Gronk are frightening but that was before Marty was an option.

When Gronk was out in 2012 and they had AH they did ok.

I just think they have enough offense to put up 27-30 consistently without him- on any defense.

The problem is they need to play really well to do it.

Panic away, my friend, because this will be his third diskectomy. Normally, they start talking about fusion surgeries after the second one.

I'm assuming that they'll do that as soon as he's done playing. He will certainly have limitations and pain throughout the rest of his life, and there's a reasonable chance it could cut his career short.

Saw this elsewhere. No idea how accurate (or not):
"Disc failure is a chronic phenomenon and is usually based on the luck of your genetic draw. Surgery really only works for acute disc failure (infected discs, or discs that ruptured along with a major bony fracture), because the discs are just going to keep failing."

Brady's numbers with/without Gronk are frightening.

Meh that's completely overrated and a media narrative to make Brady look like Gronk's been propping him up.

Those numbers without Gronk is based majorly on 2013, when he was throwing to Dobson, Thompkins, and Hoomanuwaui.
