Report: surgery for Gronk

Anybody got info on comparable injuries and return times?

I have seen military types with this injury so bad they couldn't stand or walk back in action in less time than what they are predicting here. But as someone already said it really depends on the total injury, a herniated disk that allows you stand and walk in my opinion aint that bad...been there.

The Ravens and Broncos games are definitely two losses now. Better hope Oakland and Denver drop a few more .

Clear question: Can we get to the SB without China Doll and what are the chances in those games? How does Bennett stack up against Denver, KC, Oakland, Ravens, Steelers TE's?

Worst post of the thread, IMHO, and given the competition for that title, that's saying a lot.

The team will be OK. They've won without Gronk in the past, they will do so again. It'll just be more difficult for us, and easier for defenses to key on MB. Be prepared to hear a lot of "#71 reporting as eligible" during the upcoming weeks.

Compared to the legendary Matt Lengel?

NFL.COM: Matt Lengel

Dion's injury history is a concern, IMHO. However, just like Gronk, you can't predict when and how an injury will come up, and if he's on the roster you play him.

Time will tell if it turns out to have been a hasty decision or not. Personally I'm thinking BB wishes he'd found a way to keep him around right about now. A platoon of AJD on passing downs and Fleming on rushing downs seems to me to be better than lots of Matt Lengel with zero NFL catches.

Guilty as charged.

Because as of yesterday they thought Gronk's injury was minor.

According to all accounts Lengel is a competent blocking TE which is already a plus he has got on Derby in terms of usability.

Would be nice to run it a little more as well. Need to be balance.

It's easier to find a good blocking TE rather than one who can contribute to the passing attack. As we saw last week when Gronk left we got a lot of Cameron Fleming coming in and reporting as eligible.

I get it, AJ Derby's not walking through that door. Too bad, IMHO. Yes, we've seen plenty of guys who we kept around hoping they'd develop but they just never caught on here, but I always thought that trading Derby four games into his NFL career was a bit hasty.

Now that he plays for DEN, I hope AJD has a lousy career!

Time to move on to the Matt Lengel Era!

The preseason feedback was positive on Derby's blocking, so I'm not sure where this categorical "he can't block" stuff is coming from.

Woo hoo! Looking forward to some Flem Spikes!!!!

The reason I don't have an issue with Derby missing is because in my opinion we are deep enough in terms of passing attack options this year to compensate. Like I said a few times I am less worried about the passing attack and more concerned what it will mean for other opponents now being able to match up with us better in terms of the run game. Defending our 2TE package was a horror for most teams because depending on how they would match up we could go pass or legit run out of the same package.

Hope nobody tells Jeff Fisher about this.

What crappy news to wake up to, back to bed for me.

More Lewis and White together in the backfield. I think they were going to wait till Denver to unleash this combo but now I think they have no choice but to get it started sooner.

We must have watched different games..

I am not counting them out.
Next man up.

They have won big games without key players before. I am sure Gronk will be supremely motivated to make it back.

As others have noted they have essentially locked up the #2 slot and a first round bye already. That projects to a winnable home game and one tough but winnable road game to get Gronk back.

Sky is still overhead as far as I can see.

They just cannot for the life of them win in that stadium. Altitude? Loud crowd that isn't wine and cheese like Gillette? Mental? I don't know. What's that defense gonna do to us without Gronk?

Ravens are a tough team and Joe Flacco goes crazy when he plays here. I shouldn't of said " guaranteed" losses. I'm just fed up with this Gronk thing every year. Either he doesn't wanna play through pain, or l don't know? We are royally screwd. Getting rid of Jones, Collins, Darby looks really really bad on BB right now.

Sure losing Gronk will hurt the team. But this isn't 2013 over again. Even then, the Pats made it to the AFC Championship with Brady having only Edelman, Vereen and a beat-up Amendola (the other were Collie, Dobson, Mulligan and Hoomanawanui).

Between Edelman, Hogan, Mitchell, Amendola, Bennett, Lewis and White, Brady still has a few toys to play with. And I'm not even including the one that was tossed to the field in Buffalo

So you agree with me they won't get HFA throughout? Looking like Oakland, KC, Denver will take that number one seed.
