Post Game Thread- Pats @ Jets

I mentioned this crew and their propensity to "let them play" earlier this week. That PI on Gronk early was a good indication they were going to let the players play. Plenty of contact on both sides today but that crew fit the Jets style far more than the Pats. Sounds paranoid but I've been watching these ref assignments all season and there IS a pattern.
Hochuli's crew would have thrown three times as many flags today.

The key thing for me was that they called it the same way against both teams. The Rowe/Van Noy incidents were on the same level as the Gronk PI. In today's NFL that level of consistency seems to be as good as it gets. Sad kinda.

This was a nice win after coming back from a 4th quarter deficit. Moreover, I was pleased to see Mitchell step up at receiver once Gronk went out with a back injury. The offensive line seemed to settle down after a rocky start. Thereafter, Brady started to get into a rhythm.

A few things that concern me are the inconsistency of the defense and the injury situation at tight end. Hopefully these situations start to improve.

Overall, it was a big win on the road against a division foe that allows the team in contention for HFA in the AFC.

well, according to SNF Gronkowski isnt expected to miss time as his injury is minor at this point. But I wouldnt mind letting him rest a week for the bumps and bruises. I mean Brees just dropped 4 tds on the rams today.

for all those freaking out. apparently the Jets have won 4 of the past 7 games against the pats in Nyc. and the last two years the games have been very close as well.

Didn't notice Rowe much today, which is good. Butler got burned often simply from lack of height. Rowe seems smooth and if i don't notice him flapping his arms, I could see him covering big receivers and letting butler shut down the other side. We used Chad Scott like that, very effectively.

Van Noy seems interesting, not sure where he lines up. Do we really use OLBs? Or do we go with 2 in passing situations? Got to admit, since our big 3-4 days I don't really know the linebacker responsibilities in passing situations. In other words, is he competing with McLellin at LB or the pass rushers outside? Any info from the XO guys would be appreciated.

Love to see Mingo used somewhat and I know nothing about McClellin, who's a favorite whipping boy, But the team has less weaknesses than usual IMO. How bout the Oline, 2 completeTEs and good looking rookie Mitchell.

No team is flawless, you still need to play together for 60 minutes.

I'm guessing we want KC to win.

Rob Gronkowski was seen moving "gingerly" en route to the Patriots' team bus after suffering a back injury in Sunday's win over the Jets.

Gronk reportedly had to grab the railing just to get down a flight of stairs. Pro Football Talk did report Gronk's injury is "not serious" and he's not expected to miss any time going forward, but the 9-2 Patriots may want to consider taking it easy on their stud tight end ahead of a Week 13 home game against the Rams. Gronk fell in the 2010 draft due to medical concerns about his back.

Brady would have been at least 1/3 Gronk was interfered with on 1 of those long third down plays. But I agree with your point. They should stick to their most high percentage plays on third down. going way down field over the top in a tight game isn't their best option.

Terrible non call on Gronk, but who is saying the jets will allow a completion at the first down marker? I assume they are trying to loosen them up and see something long as likely to be open.

Could be wrong, but how would you know unless you're privy to the Jets coverage scheme on third down.

Big oenalty in the Broncos

I'm telling you guys - David Givens. The TD Mitchell missed - that was the old Brady-Givens sideline route - "throw off" the 5yd chuck faking the back shoulder and catch a semi-fastball on the turn before the safety can get over.

The Jets went right after Butler today from the start. You know why? They KNEW the league's worst QB this season, the one when hit early is DONE for the game, would stand untouched virtually the entire game throwing at will to his BIGGER receivers. The Jets KNEW they'd be able to take advantage even with close coverage. Fitz threw for over a SEVENTY PERCENT completion rate today, WITH a 4 yard per rush running game! WTF did they gameplan to take AWAY exactly? Fitzpatrick...53% passer for the season. Today? 72%. HIT THE LITTLE BASTARD EARLY!!!!!...but no...again, what WAS the defensive gameplan then?

I think the staff got too friggin cute and EXPECTED Gronk to play the entire game and expected to pile up- yardage on the ground. I still don't understand why they made Lewis disappear from the game plan, especially since Brady had obvious plant problems with his leg.

Yeah that is a good point. Mitchell can be a Givens type player with top-end speed. I am glad they seemingly have hit on a rookie WR after striking out for so long...

Oh yes .. and that double QB classic for huge penalty gain was a game changer.
Felt like a big turnover.

And those 4th downs .. brave fight from coaches and players to overcome banged up TB and locker-roomed Gronk

Just take a step back and enjoy the win.

I fear about the future of Gronk's career. People seem to hit him as hard as possible, but the guy is starting to be made of glass. Not that I agree with playing him today because that was costly, but he is injury prone. He seems to get injured every season and now multiple times inn one.
